I love an excuse to buy presents for my friends and family, but there are some people who are hard to buy for. I find it very easy choosing gifts for my boys and my female friends and family members, but when it comes to my OH and my brother I really struggle because what do you buy for men who have everything they need already because they won’t wait for it to be bought for them?
Before the world wide web was invented, if you were concerned that you or a loved one was poorly, you needed to ask friends or family for advice and of course your GP if you were still not satisfied. I remember growing up that my Mum kept a kind of medical encyclopaedia, and whenever my brother or I felt unwell, my Mum always turned to that book. It was full of medical conditions, their names and explanations along with symptoms and this became her medical bible for her family’s health and well being while we lived at home. If she found anything she was worried about, a visit was arranged to see our doctor.
I love receiving a festive hamper through the post, I always feel like a kid in a sweet shop, with lots of ‘ooohs’ and ‘aaaahs’ escaping from my lips as I investigate its contents excitedly!
I have to be honest, I have never been very good at saving money. When I was growing up I had a post office savings account which I would pay my birthday and Christmas money into, and then during my gap year before starting university I added my wages to help me with my student life.
So it is 49 days until Christmas !!!
Is that good or bad news for you? I think it is not too bad, and still seems like long enough. However I am well aware that before I know it it will be Christmas Eve and all of the presents will be under the tree or in stockings, and all that it left is to wait until the following day to hope that the recipients of my gifts will be pleased with them.
