Remember, remember – yes it is the 5th of November! The boys are very excited about going to see some fireworks tonight, I am just hoping that the wet weather, that only started yesterday, which is just typical for this time of year after a couple of weeks of perfect dry weather, will stay away so at least we can watch them in the dry!
For the last couple of years I have prepared the boys a little Bonfire Night themed tea party ), and this year will be no different. Sausages of course play a major staring role in our tea, because the boys love eating them and they are typical bonfire night fayre, aren’t they? I also cooked some mini jacket potatoes, some baked beans and for pudding some fruity firework kebabs.
Everything was very easy to prepare and the whole meal took just over an hour to cook and serve. I was sent some produce from Costcutter with which to prepare a Bonfire Night themed tea, featuring their Independent range of food.
Here is what I made:
Banger Rockets
You will need:
Quality sausages – I used pork and apple sausages from Costcutter
1 red pepper
1 yellow pepper
1 eating apple
kebab sticks
Cook your sausages as per the instructions on the packet.
Slice your peppers into thin strips
Cut your apple into as triangular shapes as you can
Once cooked, assemble your food onto the kebab sticks, as per my photos
Mini Jacket Potatoes
You will need:
1 bag of baby potatoes
Cheese – grated
Butter (optional)
Place the potatoes on baking tray and cook in the oven on a high heat for about an hour
Once cooked, cut a cross into the top of each potato and top with your butter/grated cheese
Serve with baked beans
Fruity Firework Kebabs
You will need:
A selection of fruit – I used Strawberries and grapes
Chocolate Mini rolls, sliced
Fruit Yo Yo’s
Kebab Sticks
Thread the fruit, cake and yo yo’s on to kebab sticks
I think this is a fun indoor edible way to enjoy bonfire night, without getting wet! My boys love it when I make their food a little bit more fun and give food fun names, so this meal went down really well with them, and they have requested it again!
Enjoy your bonfire night whatever you do and remember, remember to get some sausages!!!!
