I am not a very crafty or arty person and I do not take on many challenges which involve sticky back plastic, glue, scissors and imagination, because my end result never seems to mirror what I had envisaged in my head!!! And to think I grew up wanting to be a Blue Peter presenter!!!
I was recently asked to create a heart made from Cheerios to help celebrate the fact that Nestle have added another cereal to the Cheerio family. Low Sugar Oat Cheerios are available now in the supermarkets, and tastes really nice, not as sweet as normal Cheerios, obviously, but containing just 1.4g of sugar per serving is a much better cereal for your teeth and your waistline!
Knowing that my boys like to think they are mini Mister Maker’s, I accepted the challenge and was sent some items with which to create our Cheerio heart
I decided, with Jenson’s help, that we would make some Cheerios Heart Bunting as I have seen photos of Cheerios being thread to make jewellery and bird feeders. However, to make our hearts a little bit different, and hopefully prettier, I coloured some of the oaty Cheerios with some red food colouring, to make them more ‘heart’ like.
So with it being a lovely sunny morning, we sat outside and got to work threading our red Cheerios onto some pipe cleaners
Once the Cheerios have been threaded, allowing a little of each end of the pipe cleaner to be left visible, I simply twisted the two ends together to fasten the hearts, and shaped the pipe cleaner into a heart shape
The using some wire thread, I made loops which I threaded through the top Cheerio on the heart
Then I threaded the hearts onto a piece of red ribbon.
Jenson and I decided to hang our bunting in our cherry tree
I think this bunting looks pretty and looks great swinging in the breeze on my tree. Plus, the birds will probably enjoy eating it!
I was sent some Low Sugar Oat Cheerios and a craft pack to make a Cheerio heart
