I do love smoothies and I remember several years ago I had my own smoothie maker, and I used to make one each day for breakfast or to take into work to drink at my desk, if I had to be in early that day. Burton and Jenson also like drinking smoothies and I do try to include it for breakfast most days during the school week. I use to make my own, but my trusted smoothie maker stopped working about 18 months ago, so since then the boys drink ready made smoothies which I buy in the supermarket (usually when they are on special!).
Therefore, when I was asked to review theĀ Breville Blend Active Family Pack., I jumped at the opportunity because it meant I could revert back to making the boys homemade smoothies. I want the boys to see what goes into their smoothies because when they drink it ready made from a carton, as nice as they taste, we have no idea what they are drinking. However, by making our own smoothies, I am able to make the boys fresh drinks which have not been stood around for a few weeks in a carton and I know exactly what has gone into making them.
We have made lots of mixed fruit smoothies, but with it being the festive season, I wanted to make them a Christmassy smoothie so I experimented, and came up with a Strawberry & Peppermint one, which actually worked (yay!). I made a child friendly version for Burton and Jenson, but for myself I added a little cheeky shot of Baileys because…… well just because it is almost Christmas!!!
You will need (based on 1 large glass for one person)
1 banana – broken into pieces
6 strawberries – green bits removed and chopped
100ml yogurt – I used vanilla but natural or strawberry flavours would work
1peppermint candy cane crushed into pieces
1 tbsp Baileys Irish Cream*
1 whole peppermint candy cane – decoration
(*optional and for grown ups only!)
Place all of the ingredients but only 1/2 the crushed candy cane (keep the other half back for decoration) ino your blender cup and blend for 1 minute approx, until everything is combined
Pour into a drinking vessel and top with the remaining peppermint candy cane pieces
Hang the whole candy cane off the glass for extra decoration (and maybe to eat after you have drank your smoothie!?)
Cheers!
I made my Strawberry and Peppermint Smoothie in my fab new Breville Blend Active Family Pack.
I have to be honest it is by far the easiest and fastest blender I have ever used for making smoothies! Sooo easy in fact that it is childs play – and both Burton and Jenson have enjoyed making their own smoothie creations each morning since the kit arrived
We all also love the fact that the smoothies are made inside the beakers that you can actually drink from after the smoothie is made! That is just genius! You add the blade which screws on to the beaker once you have added your smoothie ingredients, this then gets turned upside down and screwed into the base of the blend-active and then you press the switch to blend for 30-60 secs approx. Then unscrew form the base, remove the blade lid and then add the drinking lid and your smoothie is ready to drink then or take away with you to work, the gym or school. Burton has taken a smoothie for his snack a couple of times now instead of fruit.
Of course the Breville Blend-Active is just not a smoothie maker, it can also be used to make milkshakes, slushes, cocktails etc.. It comes with enough bottles for a family of four and I know we will get a lot of use from this set.
Smoothies made with the Breville Blend-Active are tasty, nutritious and delicious and fun! They also give you smoothie moustaches!
I was sent a Breville Blend-Active for the purpose of a review
