Christmas is coming!!!
Yes I have mentioned the ‘C’ word yet again on my blog, afterall it is just 6 weeks until the BIG day. As I have also previously mentioned on my blog, I am not a successful biscuit baker so I find it MUCH easier and indeed less stressful, to buy biscuits. However, you do not have to have made your own biscuits to be able to decorate them, and I had a go this afternoon making some festive ones, seeing as though the ‘C’ word is creeping up on us now!
I had a go at making some Snowman biscuits – such a simple activity and I know one that Burton and Jenson will love to do, which I will let them very soon, now I know what I am doing! There are lots of photos of various snowman biscuit designs on the internet, but I did not see one quite like mine (although I am sure it has been done already by someone somewhere!), where the hat part was made with sprinkles.
Here is how I created them.
You will need:
*8 round biscuits (or as many as you want to make)
any round biscuits will do and any flavour too. I used Bonne Maman Lemon & Poppyseed and Butter Galettes
*150g icing sugar
*cold water
*edible sprinkles
*8 mini orange smarties
*8 other mini coloured smarties
*16 chocolate drops
*chocolate sprinkles
Method:
Mix the icing sugar with a little cold water to make a very thick icing ‘paste’
Spread each biscuit with the icing
At the top centre of each biscuit, add your coloured smartie
Using a piece of greaseproof paper, hold it over each biscuit about 2/3 down and then add your sprinkles to make your snowman ‘hat’
Add an orange smartie to each one to make a nose
Add 2 chocolate drops to make the eyes
Make a smiley mouth from the chocolate sprinkles
Leave to set
And that is it!! Now they are ready to eat 🙂
Although I used both type of edible sprinkles, I think the strands worked better. Obviously, your snowmen might look a little neater but it gives you an idea of how they can look (I also dropped my tub of hundreds and thouands all over my kitchen floor!!! That took some hoovering I can tell you!).
I also had a go at making some simple snowflake ones too, which would look great for any Disneys Frozen fans (you could even colour your icing blue for a more Frozen look)
And I even attempted an Olaf, using a Bonne Maman Madeleine , icing, a piece of a Bonne Maman chocolate galette and some other decorative edible things!
Hmmm not brilliant BUT I am sure some clever person could make that look more ‘Olaf’ !
Still, it was good fun creating all these yummy treats and I will be donating them to my PTA meeting tomorrow!
I was sent a box of Bonne Maman edible goodies for the purpose of thinking up ways of using and decorating them.
I had no idea that they made anything other than their preserves and madeleines, so I was pleasantly suprised to see they made galettes (thin biscuits) and tarts! The biscuits are so crisp and light and crumbly mmmm really good! I have not tried the tarts yet – but I will!!
