Burton got out of bed this morning in good spirits about going to Ladybirds today – he was full of beans anyway as I was awoken by hearing shouts of “1, 2, 3 wake upppppp mummmmyyyy“!! Still not as bad as Daddy’s wake up call as he was serenaded up close with Burton’s rendition of “1, 2, 3,4 5, once I caught a fish alive” through a toilet roll tube!! Funny boy!
Anyway, all was fine until I told him it was time to get ready to leave and then his face crumpled and I got the usual “me not want to go Ladybirds. Me want to stay ‘ere “. I laughed and told him he did really and eventually, after he refused to get off the potty for almost 5 minutes (even though he didn’t do anything!), we all got in the car and headed off to Landkey.
All the way there I kept singing 1, 2, 3,4 5, once I caught a fish alive” (although not in a toilet roll tube because for one thing I would have looked silly and secondly, its dangerous to sing through cardboard tubes whilst driving!), to keep him from crying more which worked until I had parked the car.
I had to bring Jenson with us this morning, so I was really hoping that unlike the previous weeks Burton would walk and not insist on being carried – it is just not possible to carry them both. He did walk most of the way until he saw the front door and then goodness me did he start crying and screaming, and he refused point blank to move another step. So I had to ring the doorbell, get Tanita to hold Jenson while I carried Burton inside. I decided I wouldn’t hang around today as I figured that the quicker I left the quicker he would settle into his session, so I kissed him goodbye and handed him to Tanita, who passed Jenson back, and I left fast! I didn’t cry at all today because I know he loves it despite all the tear protests and I set off him to a morning of cooking and cleaning!
When I collected him I was told that this week he settled in the quickest he has ever to date (yes!) and he had enjoyed a fun day with lots of playing inside and out (it was a lovely sunny day) and his report was short and sweet this week:
Burton settled straight away today, enjoyed sharing stories with Tanita.
He has enjoyed messy activities today such as making vegetable prints and exploring playdoh.
He has also down some counting work.
Of course all he kept saying while I collected his bag and coat was “me love Ladybirds”!! And he kept waffling on about something which ended with “my mummy back soon”??
When we got home I took him and Jenson to the park as I told him I would as part of my bribery to get him to go off cheerfully this morning!! He insisted on wearing my brand new top of the range flashy sunglasses (cost me £1 a la Primark lol)
He told me on the way to the park while I was asking him what he had done today there, that at Ladybirds “me told mummy be back soon”, so I guess that to calm him down this morning Tanita told him that I would soon be back to pick him up. I told him this and he smiled at me and nodded his head and said again “me like Ladybirds Mummy”.
Bless him 🙂

Bless him. It must be hard to see him crying, but it’s good to know that he settles quickly and really enjoys himself… x

Ah bless him! It’s far mor etraumatic for us as the parents with the whole nursery thing isn’t it?! But at least he does seem to enjoy it when he’s there! Nice primark sunnies too! x

I’m so glad he’s settling more quickly now…I think you are right, drop & run is the best way. I’ve dropped Jack before now sobbing, seconds later looked through the window & he’s smiling away…they do it to make you feel wanted & needed…they are perfectly fine!!

Aww, so glad he’s settling a little easier now. I bet in a few weeks he’ll be off playing before you’ve even hung his coat up 🙂

Oh bless him, it is getting easier for him and I hope that The Boy settles as quickly this Friday. We *must* persevere!
