Just before Christmas Burton discovered Peppa Pig in a big way. Its not a TV programme that we watch in our house as we tend to watch the CBeebies channel, but his older cousins enjoy it and Granma has several DVD’s of Peppa Pig which he gets to watch at her house. With the Christmas episodes being played often during December at Granma’s, suddenly Burton wanted to watch Peppa Pig all the time much to daddy’s rolling eyes!
Therefore, when we were sent the Peppa Pig Fun Phonics I knew that Burton would enjoy using it and as soon as we opened the package his little face lit up when he saw that it was “Peppa Pig *oink oink*”!!
The concept behind this phonics set is easy really, its to teach your child letters from the alphabet including how letters sound, recognising them, spelling small words and learning the alphabet essentially.
Your child can select from 8 different games via the games selector
- Touch & Tell
- Letter Names & Sounds
- Find….
- The 1st Letter
- Find The Phonic
- Word Spelling
- Follow Me
- Fun Sounds
Burton found his way around the ‘console’ reasonably easily. I think his only problem was that there is no volume control which meant that sometimes he had trouble hearing what Peppa was asking him to do. I must admit even if struggled to hear it sometimes. However, there is a repeat button so the question can be listened to as many times as is needed.
There is no on/off switch instead the console turns itself off when left idle for a few minutes. It is also a sturdy piece of kit as it has fallen onto the floor after baby brother knocked it off the sofa when he wanted to try it out for himself!
Aimed at children 3 years ad over, I think that overall this is a good learning tool for helping with recognising how letters sound and look, and to spell small words, and at £24.99 it certainly doesn’t break the (peppa) piggy bank!
We give it 3 oink oinks out of 5

I’ve been looking at getting this for Jack as he loves ‘Pe-pig’ at the moment…but maybe I’ll keep an eye out for it going in the sale & just stick to the muddy puddles dvd for now!
