You may recall that it was biscuit week in the GBBO tent on Wednesday, and as it was the last day of the school summer holidays today (boooo!), I thought the boys might enjoy a spot of biscuit baking. I had been sent some Star cookie cutters from House Of Fraser which are perfect for little baking hands to use.
Now, as I admitted in previous posts I am not a great biscuit baker – no idea why – but there it is, honesty is the best policy and all that. Therefore, despite finding an easy biscuit recipe to follow I was dubious as to how they would turn out once baked. Still, Burton and Jenson were very excited to be baking and loved cutting out their biscuits , while nibbling on the raw dough!
Once baked, which was a guesstimation based on the varying sizes and thickens of each biscuit (LOL), we left them to cool, while the boys enjoyed taste testing the icing and decorations!!! However, after 20 minutes the biscuits were cool enough to ice. They used some pre prepared icing bags sold in the supermarket which come with a choice of nozzles. I left it up to the boys to select their favourite nozzle, and their choices made the piping work look very 1970’s/80’s as you will see. Also, the boys decorating skills are a case of less is defiantly not enough, and more is best!!! Burton even managed to add the letters of his name to 6 biscuits to spell it out!
Still, they had a lot of fun making and decorating these biscuits, but they were in no way uniformed in size or shape so I don’t think they would have been Star Bakers! Plus the kitchen did look like a bomb had gone off by the time it was all over!
The recipe I used was taken from one I found on the BBC Good Food website, which was easy to make and perfect for the boys to use.
I am going to link this up to my #GBBOBloggers2016 Biscuit week linky, as I promised the boys I would but I don’t think their efforts are Star Baker worthy yet, but you never know – one day!!!
I was sent a selection of baking products from House Of Fraser, who have great deals on at the moment in their baking department, which you might spot during my #GBBOBloggers2016 series of recipes, so keep an eye out for them.

More is definitely better than less when it comes to baking with children. It does look like they had great fun and I think they may well have future star bakers in them. Glad I didnt have to clean up the kitchen though:)

that is very true! I am all in favour of encouraging my boys to embrace a love of cooking and baking x

Hahaha, i really love their 70s/80s decoration and judging by for Burton’s piping skills – I think he might be applying for Junior BakeOff before you know it. They look lovely.
