Since I became a Mum I have had a real love/hate relationship with my body. I know that a mix of post baby stretching and shrinking, and my age means that my body is not amazing in any way now, and is never going to be as firm and shapely as it once was back in my 20’s. But that is ok. I have accepted it for what it is, and I do not hate it as much as I did or have done since I became a Mummy.
A lot of this is because I rejoined Slimming World 18 months ago, and I got below my pre pregnancy weight, and although I have gained a few pounds since Christmas, I am now back on plan and hope to lose those and get to target by this summer. It is an on going weight loss journey, but I do not want to go back to where I have been before because I do not like me as that person , or how it made me feel. I feel more confident about myself now and maybe that is down to my age. However, I do think losing weight has helped a lot, together with wearing clothes that make me feel better about myself and which are kind of more suited to my age and figure now: post baby and weight loss.
When it comes to jeans I have always played it safe and wore boot cut jeans as I always felt these suited me best. My legs are in no way shapely, and I have always had big thighs and chunky calves and ankles! I assumed that the boot cut jean flattered my legs and these are the type I have worn for as long as I can remember. I have never really been a big fan of jeans , however, in the last 6 months or so I have started enjoying them again and I think this is because I have ventured out of my jeans bubble and experimented with some new styles.
It seems that many ladies tend to stick to the same type of jean and do not like to be adventurous and try out a new style, and I know how easy it is to get stuck in a jeans rut, because I did it myself for years. George at Asda have a campaign at the moment called “How Do Your Jeans Make You Feel“ , and it is all about giving us women a style boost by encouraging us to try out some new jeans and to make us feel comfortable and confident in them, through their fab range of jeans. George want to encourage us to pick a pair of jeans to suit different occasions, for example a pair perfect for a night out, or ones better suited to the school runs or popping into town for a cuppa with friends.
I have to be honest I would never buy different jeans for different social occasions as I always wear the same style for any night in or out! So when I was invited by George to try out some of their jeans, I went right outside of my jeans comfort zone and selected 3 pairs: 2 of which are ones that I do not normally buy for myself and would never have imagined would look nice on me!
Being a Mum : school runs and nipping into town with the family at weekends
For this I stuck with my jean favourite the boot cut because these jeans are so easy to wear and perfect for feeling comfortable in when I am with the boys, or running around getting the groceries or doing some housework. I love the fact that they do not need hitching up as they never feel like they are falling down, thanks to the belt that they come with. I teamed them up with this lovely pastel pink shirt insert jumper and these very comfortable black Gladitor style sandals which are perfect with warmer weather on the way.
Being Jenny not Mummy: A Night Out With OH and Friends
I do not go out very often so it is always hard knowing what to wear that makes me feel confident, because most of the time going out means popping to a friends for a cuppa while the boys are at school! For the first time EVER I braved it and opted for a pair of skinny – yes you heard me right – skinny jeans! BUT these skinny jeans are high waisted which are perfect for concealing a post baby flabby tummy and for giving you a muffin top free look with your tops! They are also part of the George Wondersculpt range which have been designed to flatter your figure and boost your confidence. I have to say they certainly did just that, and after reading the reviews of them on the George clothing, I was even more brave because I ordered the size 12 (I am always a 14 – have been since I was about 18) and they fit!!! Yaaaay!
Seriously, when I wear these jeans people ask if I have lost weight! I would never have dreamed of wearing skinny jeans before but I am so pleased I went for it because they have made such a difference to my appearance. They suit high heels best as these make my legs look longer and leaner, but equally look fine with flats too (and boots!) which would make them fine for everyday wear with a more casual top.
I teamed the skinny jeans with this flattering jacket and blue bat winged top for my night out as I have been looking for a jacket for occasions such as this for ages. The blue top is a colour that I would not normally pick, but I liked the necklace which comes with it and the bat winged effect is flattering for my arms.
Being Comfy and Cool For The Summer
With summer on the way and warmer weather on the horizon, it can be hard to find jeans that do not make you feel too hot and stuffy. I chose these jeggings as I hoped they would be light weight and comfortable to wear out and about when it is hot outside. These are quite high waisted jeggings so again make for a more slimming body shape. I also thought this pink blouse was easy to wear and keep cool in, and it just skims my body, so again gives me a slimming look. I am wearing the gladiator sandals again here, which look great with all of the jeans I have chosen actually.
I have to say that thanks to George, I feel I have some great outfits for the coming year and I also bought myself this bright camisole top, this floral scarf and these sparkly sandals because I feel that I can mix and match all of the items I chose, to make several different outfits to suit many different social occasions.
So How Do Your Jeans Make You Feel and Which Jean Are You? The range of jeans by George are such great value for money and very stylish – there is bound to be a pair to suit you and make you feel great too. Go take a look for yourself.
I was allowed to choose £145 worth of George clothing of my own choice for the purpose of a review and blog post in return. All comments made about the clothes are my own and honest, and they really are fantastic in terms of quality and value for money.
