There are a lot of online meal delivery services on line now. No, I am not talking about take aways (although being able to order my Chinese online now is much better than waiting for them to pick up my call at the other end!), but actual fresh food of the highest quality being delivered to your door complete with step by step menu cards, and everything you need to cook a delicious home cooked meal for you and your family.I was recently asked if I would like to try the Riverford Farms recipe box, and knowing that the ethos of Riverford is organic, fresh and in season produce I said yes knowing that I would be in for a treat. I have been sent a few recipe kits before from other companies, so I understand the concept of the recipe boxes, in that you are sent all the ingredients required to make say 3 meals a week, for either 2 or 4 people, with clear step by step instructions. Basically, these recipe boxes are designed to take away the stress of having to think about cooking or shopping or even designing a menu, because this is all done for you and all you have to do is cook the food and then eat it!
The great thing about Riverford is that you know that the ingredients are going to be organic and of a high quality and seasonal.
You can choose from 3 recipe boxes : quick, original and vegetarian, and let me assure you that the choices of meals available all sound amazing and it is hard choosing which box to opt for!
The boxes themselves are well thought out as each one has separate sections which are numbered, so you know which ingredients go with which recipe card.
These boxes are also very generous in their portions (more so than previous recipe kits I have been sent to review), with lots of beautiful meat and vegetables and plenty to serve 2-3 people rather than the 2 stated. The ‘original 3 meals’ recipe box I was sent costs £39.95 (same as the ‘quick’ recipe box), for 3 meals and as I say claims to serve 2 people, but I think you could make some of the meals go around 2 adults and 2 small children quite easily. This works out that each meal costs £13.32 to make, which is £6.65 per head (based on 2 people eating it), which when you consider is completely 100% organic and includes recipe cards and free delivery is actually pretty good value I think. Plus the time it takes to make sure all of the ingredients are measured out to the recipe requirements. Therefore, all in all reasonable value when compared to eating out or ordering a take away. (The vegetarian box is £33).
I actually think that the Riverford recipe boxes are a great idea and the recipes are really tempting, and not only look good on the website and recipe cards, but look great on my plate at home too!
And they really are sooooo tasty. I like the fact that it introduces me to new meals and the chance to try a purely organic menu. Although my meals never look as good as the ones featured on the recipe cards (obviously!), they still tasted lovely and this was my version of the Char Sui Pork
I really rate this Riverford recipe box service and think it would be perfect for busy people who work long hours and like to have meals created, and the ingredients selected and weighed out for them. It is a perfect way to try new foods and not have to think about what to cook because that has been taken care of for you. Plus of course food waste is hugely reduced by choosing to buy a meal delivery service from Riverford recipe boxes, because you are only eating what arrives in the box which is enough for each meal. And the majority of the packaging is recyclable too.
I was sent a box for the purpose of a review
