With the glorious weather which we are now being treated to, I love nothing more than packing up a picnic, suncream and the boys and heading off out for the day. One of my favourite places to take my two is our local National Trust property which is only a few miles away, and due to me being a member we can enjoy as many days there as we like.
To be fair, we have not yet actually walked around the house as we like to explore the grounds. Playing hide and seek, rolling down grassy banks, building dens and climbing trees are just a fee of the fun activties we (well the boys mostly!) participate in while we visit. My two boys love climbing trees and Arlington has so many different ones with their varying heights, widths and shapes making each one a new challenge to face. We often take our Gruffalo along with us to partake in a little Gruffalo hunt (I have previous posts on here about these), which the boys still enjoy doing. How that Gruffalo climbs up the tree by himself is a mystery!!
My two just like countless other kids and generations of kids before them, adore trees. Climbing them, sheltering beneath them from the sun and the rain, catching the leaves that fall from them, discovering their treasures like conkers and acorns in Autumn and the pretty, sweet smelling blossom in the spring. Being able to make things from its wood, for fun and to survive.
Trees really are so important to us, our kids and the planet and in in a bid to protect them for future generation, over the next five years Yorkshire Tea wants to plant a million new trees, half in the UK and half in Kenya. They have teamed up with The Woodland Trust and The Gruffalo to inspire people of all ages to get involved in this unfolding story and to encourage families to learn about caring for the planet together. The project is called Yorkshire Tree and can discover more about it here
Hot tea in a flask makes for the perfect addition on a family picnic 🙂
I was sent some Yorkshire tea and a lovely mug to make use of in a post
A perfect use for your tea and mug! I remember your Gruffalo woodland posts like they were yesterday, it always looked such a fun challenge for the boys and lovely that they still enjoy the story. Gorgeous photos of that huge tree with the fallen purple flower carpet below, who wouldn’t want to climb up there? Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids
