Can you believe that last month the National Lottery celebrated its 20th birthday?
I can’t!
I can still remember where I was when I bought my very first lottery ticket. I was a second year student at the time studying at DeMontfort University in Leicester, and I recall that there was great excitement in my student digs with myself and my housemates about what we would spend our millions on should any of us win the lottery! I bought my very first ticket from a little corner shop just a short walk from my house at the time on Narborough Road, probably with a chocolate bar too back in the days when I could eat a chocolate bar every day and not put weight on *sighs*. Ha ha those were the days!
Anyway, since it began back in November 1994, the National Lottery has created 3,600 millionaires (sadly not me!) and has funded a wide range of public sector projects through its ‘Good Causes’ fund, including 12,700 after-school clubs, 700 parks and green spaces, and 5 Oscar winning films!!! It has also been a massive financial support for the national charity Home-Start, which focuses on improving and supporting the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged families.
That is amazing, isn’t it?
