This time last year we still had Sky TV, and this meant access to some channels that we no longer have. One of these was the Disney channel, and it introduced Burton and Jenson to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake and the Neverland Pirates. Both boys still think back to those happy months of being able to watch the Disney Channel, and in fact just the other day, I over heard Jenson telling his friend that we used to watch Jake and the Neverland Pirates too, it was one of my favourites!!!
Therefore, when I was asked if I would like to review the new Fisher Price Jake and the Neverland Pirates – Pirate Adventure Bucky, I just knew this would be a big hit with both boys!
The good news is that once the pack is opened (and for once there are not too many pieces of string to cut open to get the boat out of the box!), there is no assembly required which is always a relief! The only things you need to assemble as such, is to add the flag pole, add Jake to the boat and there are 3 canons which you can use to fire at any naughty sea creatures of, or of course, that pesky Captain Hook (please note that Captain Hook does not come with the Bucky set, I was just being imaginative there!). Just by pressing the big blue disk, perfect size for little fingers, the canon fires the canons. They fly out quite far across the room too – I was impressed!
The Bucky has wheels on its base which makes it very easy to sail move across the sea carpet and again this is ideal for young children as it can be used on a variety of surfaces indoors and outside too.
I do think it is a shame that you only get a Jake figure with this set, because it would be nice if it came complete with his friends Izzy and Cubby too. However, these two characters do appear aboard the Bucky in the form of images already painted on the ship’s hull.
There are some great moveable parts on the Bucky which Jake is free to explore, the door to the cabin opens and closes easily and Jake can stand up inside this.
The wheel of the boat spins round, and the trap door opens and closes allowing you to capture some naughty pirates or keep your treasure safe inside it.
I also liked the fact that in the soles of Jake’s boots are 2 holes, and on the ship in various areas, are small raised lugs which fit inside the holes and allows Jake to stand firm and not fall over when the Bucky is in high carpet waters!
and of course what every pirate needs – a slide for easy access to the lower level of the Bucky!
The Fisher Price Jake and the Neverland Pirates – Pirate Adventure Bucky would make a pefect gift this Christmas for all fans of the TV show. The boat is well made , sturdy and durable and I can see it lasting well as it is good quality. The colours are bright and cheery and Jake is easy to manoeuvre. However, at just under £40 this is not a cheap toy and it is the lure of the name Jake and the Neverland Pirates due to its popularity with kids due to the TV show, that puts this toy at the high price point. There is no questioning the quality of the Bucky, and being made by Fisher Price, you know you are buying a gift which is well made and designed with children in mind, BUT I do feel that at £40 it would have been nice to have added some extra figures, as just one seems a little mean!
However, this will be a BIG hit with my two boys as I know it will be with Jake and the Neverland Pirate fans everywhere, because they enjoyed the show and will therefore enjoy re-enacting scenes from the programme.
I was sent this toy for a purpose of a review and all comments made about it are my own and honest.

This looks great and really robust. I have to agree with you though, it’s a shame it only comes with one figure, especially for that price xx
