Yes these are cupcakes that have been themed towards Valentines day, buuuuuut I only decorated them with the little love heart sweets because they were the only cake toppers I had at the time (leftovers from the school Valentines Disco!).
The cupcakes are red velvet ones, that have been topped with a white chocolate and cream cheese frosting, so they do work well for a Valentines treat for the one you love, or even for yourself. However they would equally work well all year round because you could easily replace the love hearts with another topper of your choice.
I have to confess that I did not make the cupcakes all by myself. I mean I made them and baked them, and decorated them myself BUT the cake mix was actually from a tube so I am unable to take credit for the flavour of the cake sponges. I was sent a selection of cupcake mixes from Little Sins Cupcakery, and I have to say that they look very premium when compared to cake mixes you would usually find on a supermarket shelf.
Each tube contains all the dry ingredients you need to make the cupcakes with, and all you need to add are some store cupboard basics. In the case of these red velvet cupcakes, I needed to add an egg, some butter and buttermilk.
The cupcakes do not take long to make, and after 20-25 minutes in the oven you have a dozen cupcakes which look and smell amazing!
I made a little video to demonstrate just how quick and easy it is to use Little Sin Cupcakery cake mixes at home:
I decided to add some frosting and made a white chocolate one, but unfortunately it went a little runnier than I had anticipated, I think I over whisked it!, which is why my swirl peaks are a little lack lustre!!!! However, they tasted yummy so although from a blogging photography point of view they look unimpressive, trust me they tasted delish!
Little Sins Cupcakery offer a little bit of luxury to home baking, and the price reflects this as they do cost about twice the price of cupcakes mixes available in supermarkets. However, you know you are getting something a little more special with these cupcake mixes, and they taste luxurious and they still costs less than buying ready made cupcakes from a bakery or specialist cupcake shop.
I was sent some cupcakes mixes for the purpose of a review.
