So it is that time of the month again when my new Degustabox has arrived with its mystery items, and I rustle some ingredients together and see what I can make. This always reminds me of that TV show Ready Steady Go, except my items turn up in a box and not a carrier bag, and of course, there is no celebrity chef to make the decisions!
So from the products inside the Degustabox, I chose these items to bake with as I thought I could make some kind of flapjack. The carob fruit syrup will replace any added caster sugar and golden syrup, and the Fit Fit Fruit bars also add some natural sweetness, making this flapjack processed sugar free.
Adding other ingredients that I already had I am pleased to say that the flapjack idea worked -yaaaay!!! I decided to top my bake with some white chocolate, but of course this is optional as it would still have tasted nice without any chocolate topping.
Using the Jordans Country Crisp gave the flapjack a lovely texture and crunch , and it was very moreish.
Here is my recipe for my processed sugar free Chocolate Crispy Cereal Flapjacks.
- 1 packet of Jordans Country Crisp
- 100g oats
- 250ml Clarks Carob Fruit Syrup
- 225g unsalted butter
- 2 x Fit Fit Fruit bars
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 x 50g bar of Plain Jane Dark Conscious Organic Chocolate Bar
- *Topping - Optional*
- 100g white chocolate, melted
- chocolate sprinkles
- Pre heat the oven to 190oC / 170oC (fan)
- Line a square brownie tin with greaseproof paper
- Place the butter, carob syrup, bananas, chocolate and Fit Fit Bars in a pan over a low heat and melt while stirring occasionally
- Place the Jordans Country Crisp and the oats in to a large bowl, and pour over the melted ingredients
- Pour into your baking tin and cook for about 25-30 minutes minutes until golden brown
- When completely cool, pour over the melted chocolate and smooth over. Sprinkle some chocolate hundreds and thousands over the top
- Leave to set
- Remove from the tin, and using a sharp knife, mark your flapjack into portions and enjoy.
These were really tasty and using natural sugar replacements like the syrup, fruit bars and banana, did not affect the flavour at all. In fact these flapjacks seemed better for me somehow, because I could kid myself that they contain some of my 5-a day lol!
I was sent the featured products in my monthly Degustabox for the purpose of a review. You can subscribe to Degustabox UK and receive a box every month yourself.
