I attend a baby and toddler playgroup two mornings a week. In fact I help run it and have been doing so since January, and despite a busy and then very slow beginning, we are now quite busy and have many regulars who come along and join in with our crafts and playing time.
I also like going along because it is a way for me to off load many of the cakes and bakes I have made so far this year, as it means I don’t get fat eating them all to myself and nothing is wasted as the Mums and Dad enjoy scoffing them each session! Unbeknown to the playgroup attendees and my fellow organisers, is that I have a blog and they think I make all these cakes just because I enjoy baking. And they would be right I do, but thanks for the playgroup it has meant that I can bake more often because I know my creations will get enjoyed and eaten.
Anyway, I digress. I was asked just before half term if I would like to review some cakes. Now as a rule I do not do this very often because I bake so many cakes myself, BUT I thought it would give me a day off baking for playgroup and what better way to test out some cakes but give them out to parents at a baby and toddler group!!!
Kates Cakes are a new range of individually wrapped cakes that are baked with natual ingredients and look homemade to be honest. The cakes are available in 2 flavours:
Chocolate Fudge
Lemon Drizzle
and cost £1.99 for a box of 5, which I think is competitively priced when compared to those exceedingly good cakes you can buy from the supermarket! Plus being individually wrapped means they are perfect for packed lunches and picnics, and being the size they are , they are also ideal for portion control. It can satisfy that cake yearning without needing to cut into a whole cake, and then being tempted to cute a large slice! This is fab for me on my SW eating plan as I can easily work out the synns.
However, the true test is in the taste of the cakes and the parents at my group were very keen to help me review Kates Cakes!
I tried a piece of each and they were both really nice, moist and tasty. My favourite was the lemon drizzle, due to it being tangy and more moist and I liked the sugar crystals on the drizzled top! They were all eaten and everyone said they tasted very nice! So I told them to get down to Tesco where they can buy some themselves!!
I was sent Kates Cakes for the purpose of a review.
