I have reviewed Little Dish toddler meals a few times on my blog over the years, and most of them have been eaten by Jenson and Burton. However, as the boys have got bigger, those little ready made meals are just too small for their growing appetites and I have to admit to not buying them anymore.
However it has been brought to my attention that Little Dish has now introduced a range of meals specifically targeted for the stage past toddler hood and is therefore better suited to Burton’s age in particular. Aptly named Bigger Kids, these meals have been created specially for 3 to 6 year olds, and are perfectly balanced nutritionally for older kids, with bigger portions and chunkier textures. The meals are available in 4 new delicious recipes : Chunky Chicken Pot Roast, Mild Beef Chilli and Rice, Mediterranean Cod & Tomato Casserole and Seven Veg Lasagne
With Burton at school and Mummy and Daddy eating a Pumpkin and Mixed Bean Chilli, it felt only right that Jenson should try the Mild Beef Chilli and Rice meal. While he was waiting for his meal to cook in the few minutes it takes in the microwave, he coloured in the picture on the inside of the pack. Not only that but there were stickers too which he happily decide to sue to decorate his new Little Dish placemat (he still uses the old one we were sent over a year ago from the last review we did!). I personally think it is a wonderful idea that the packs provide these special little touches because it helped to get Jenson sat at the table ready for his dinner, and it takes his mind of the fact that he is hungry and asking how long it will be until lunch is ready!
I had to add some baked beans to his meal – he just likes baked beans and has them with almost every meal he eats, and to be honest if it means he will eat all of this dinner then I am not going to worry about it! I did try the chilli myself before I added the baked beans, and it tastes really nice, not at all spicy but still nice and saucy too so the rice had lots of sauce to cover it. It was a much bigger portion than the toddler range of meals, and actually it was too much for Jenson (Daddy finished off the rest – I mean this had beef and the one I made was veggie lol!), but had Burton been here it would have been fien for him being 5 and always hungry at the moment!
I topped it with some grated cheese (as this was what Daddy had on his chilli) and Jenson enjoyed it, and ate almost all of it too! I would say that was a success 🙂
The Little Dish cast of characters, the zoo crew, have also grown up to accommodate these bigger packs for bigger kids, and they star on each pack in new adventures in space, at the circus, on a treasure island and under the sea. Plus as I mentioned each pack contains free stickers, and if you collect and send off 3 barcodes from the Bigger Kids meals you can get a set of free sticker posters (I will be doing this!)
I was sent a wonderful pack of Little Dish products (please see the top photo) for the purpose of a review, and as you can see so far so good, and these meals are definately better suited for children with larger appetites. Monkey suits are optional of course!
