About eighteen months ago I reviewed an online cookery book aimed at toddlers and babies, called Indian Supermeals by Zainab Jagot Ahmed a mum who wrote the book after her experiences of weaning her own daughter and introducing spices and Indian cuisine into her eating experiences. You can read more about my thoughts on the book here
So it is a big well done to Zainab, because since I last reviewed her recipe book , it has now been published in hardback, and is available to buy tomorrow 🙂
The book is a lovely collection of recipes all created by Zainab, and they are aimed at children aged 7 months to 5 years and over. They range from the more traditonal Indian meals, like Zainab’s Mum’s Chicken Karahi
to some more British classics which have been given an aromatic make over. Meals like Indian Cottage Pie, Chunky Sphaghetti Bolognaise and Garam Yorkshire Hot Pot have all been made with the addition of some Indian spices, thus giving your children a more subtle introduction to spicy flavours.
All of the recipes within this book contain the nutritional benefits that all children, whatever their age, require to mantain a balanced and healthy diet. The book is called Easy Indian Super Meals, with the emphasis being on the super because Zainab has researched the health benefits of culinary spices, otherwise known as the super spices, along with super foods and the food groups, to ensure that her recipes contain all of the vitamins and minerals required by children to encourage healthy growth and development. Afterall, we are what we eat.
Easy Indian Supermeals is a well written and well thought out recipe book for children, with lots of beautiful photos on every page. The fact that the book and its recipes have been created by another Mum makes it believable, and I trust that the meals mentioned in it are indeed super meals. Aswell as the Chicken Karahi (which has become a staple part of our family meal plan), I made the chunky pasta bolognaise last week, with the added spices and dried apricots and both boys demolished it! The next recipe to try will be the super quick bombay potatoes, which I think will go well with sausages!
Easy Indian Super Meals will be available to buy from Waterstones and Amazon as of Monday 8th September, 2014 for £14.99
