LEGO Themed Packed Lunch

Burton has suddenly developed a huge love of all things LEGO, helped greatly by some generous class mates who gave him several boxes of it for this birthday, and him having seen the LEGO movie. Hence, everything LEGO is awesome and therefore when I was thinking about some packed lunch ideas for Burton for when he goes back to school, I thought that one inspired by LEGO would be equally as awesome too!

I wanted to create a lunch which is balanced, so a mix of healthy and nutritious food with some fun elements too. Also to come up with one that is not too much of a faff to make, as I am well aware that making packed lunches for the family can be time consuming!  I think this lunch idea is simple enough to make and can of course be adapted to suit your child’s preferences.

So here is my LEGO themed packed lunch.

It contains food that we have around the house and includes things that I know Burton would eat for this packed lunch……well that’s not strictly true as raw carrots and cucumber are not on his list of food favourites, BUT a Mummy has to keep trying to get him to try new things! My point is that to make a fun lunch does not have to require lots of fuss and foods that you would not normally give your child. The only additions I bought to make Burton’s LEGO lunch more awesome was some cake toppers (made from rice paper) and some miniature LEGO figure cake toppers made from fondant icing. Again, I know that these are things that Burton probably would not eat, but they are fun and edible and I think add a nice extra touch to the packed lunch, and help to make it more LEGO-esque! (both of which I bought from e-bay).

The Lego packed lunch contains the following:

Babybel Ninja – just pull away the tie from one side and carefully squeeze marmite to make eyebrows and eyes

LEGO Block Sandwiches – filled with your choice of filling and topped with carrot an cucumber discs to make the tops

Frozen LEGO Banana Blocks – just mash a ripe banana and place into a silicone LEGO block mould (I bought mine from Amazon some time ago), and freeze over night

LEGO Head Fruit Kebabs – place a large marshmallow on a cake pop stick, add a face (I used a coloured icing tube) and then push some grapes on from the bottom

Frozen LEGO yogurt blocks – fill the silicone LEGO block mould with some yogurt (I used some from the squeezable pouches for easy pouring!) and then freeze over night

LEGO Cupcake – a miniature cupcake with a LEGO fondant cake topper

I also added some mini sausages – not LEGO related at all but just because Burton loves them!

To be honest the frozen banana and the frozen yogurt blocks will no doubt have melted by the time Burton ate his lunch if he had taken this to school, so I would have just added a fromage frais pot and a banana!! BUT for fun lunches at home or even a picnic in the garden, these frozen edible blocks are fun to eat and look at!
