The last time I did ‘something funny for money’ for Comic Relief was back in March 2009 when I was 5 months pregnant with Burton. I was still working in my cafe and due to my ever expanding size I did not go too mad, I just asked the staff to wear something red. Looking back at what we came up with it was a tad boring than in previous years when we had work red devil wigs! Myself and Lynn just wore red builders jackets and a red bow tie each while Kerry wore a red dressing gown!
We encouraged our customers to join in and a lot turned up wearing red noses or hats or wigs – they were always up for a laugh and we raised about £75 I think.
Fast forward 5 years to 2014’s Sport Relief and HONK HONK
Ths year Team Honk has gone even bigger and better – some may say EPIC!!! In aid of Sport Relief this year a relay has been organised from Lands End to John O’Groats – a bonkers 3,000 miles in total! To assist them in their plight, a load of bloggers together with their friends and family are helping pass the batton on from county to county over the next few weeks, and getting up to lots of crazy antics along the way with a sporty theme to tie in with it being Sport Relief this year.
I am doing my bit although with it starting this Sunday in Cornwall and me only finding this out a week ago, there is no way I am fit enough or could train to be fit enough to pass the batton through Devon to Somserset on Monday by bike or running. Therefore, instead I am meeting the Cornish Team Honkers Sunday night at Bideford and I will drive the batton home (as it will be too dark by the time I recieve it) to Barnstaple. There may be some batton instagramming in the night and then after taking Burton to school Monday, I will set off to Taunton where I will meet up with Victoria and Gina and we will be doing some very silly things in the town centre to raise awareness of this great event and, more importantly, be asking people to donate to Sport Relief.
Due to me driving a lot which is not especially sporty *ahem*, I will be making up for this by wearing a very silly fancy dress outfit when in Taunton. Having spoken to the lovely people from Party Delights they have very kindly agreed to donate an outfit for me to wear – eeeeeeek!!! For Monday 13th January for 1 hour at 11am I am going to be………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Oh yes – this is actually going to happen on Monday in Taunton town centre – so if you live in the town please pop along and say helloooooo 🙂
BUT more importantly, I am doing this for charity and the epic Team Honk Relay 2014 is being done to raise a lot of money for Sport Relief ,so PLEASE donate for a worthy cause and help us reach our £20,000 target. You can donate to the Somerset leg of the relay here
So until Monday, keep on HONKING!!!!
**PLEASE give generously and support this massive relay which starts on Sunday 12th January in Lands End and finishes up in John O’Groats on Sunday 23rd March. There are some truely fantastic events planned on the way round including a monopoloy themed relay in London using the underground! This relay will also involve lots of epic bloggers and their friends and family, without whom this event will not be able to take place.
To find out more about how to donate to Team Honk please follow them on Facebook and Twitter
