Best Friends : For Better or for Worse

When I started at my new secondary school way back when in 1986, I soon became friends with a girl called Kimberly. We soon became best friends and through her I also became best friends with her then bestie Beth , and when Elaine started at the school a year later, the four of us have remained good and close friends ever since.

I think of these girls (albeit ladies now!) as sisters really, because I know I can trust them with any secret, and I know I can turn to them for anything and they would be there for me, to offer me support and advice. I hope they know that I would do the same for them.

Over the years we have laughed a lot, cried a lot and talked LOTS! We still get the girly giggles over silly things and our love for the film Dirty Dancing remains as strong as ever. Despite, all of us taking different paths over the last 30 years we have always kept in touch and met up regularly. Bad hair styles, questionable dress sense and several relationships (even marriages for some) between us , we have always made time to get together and have fun together and enjoy our friendship.

What is even more special now, is that our children meet up with us and have become good friends  with each other, and this makes me happy because hopefully our children will want to stay friends with one another as they grow older.

For me and my three best friends, who met as teenagers, it was our love of the film Dirty Dancing which we shared, but of course if you meet your best friend when you are little, then it is a shared interest in playing that you have together at the start. I love this video that I am going to share with you’ll, it sums up best friends perfectly, and while it shows two boys / men as best friends, it really made me think about my friendship with Kimberly, Beth and Elaine and where it has taken us over the years.

The message behind this video is very sweet and touching, and to anyone who is lucky enough to have a friendship like they do, or as I do, it is a wonderful thing, because true friendship that lasts a lifetime is a thing to cherish and be thankful for.
