As much as I like the house in which I live, and will do so even more so once we get it decorated and some of the rooms renovated to our taste, I cannot help but wonder if we will move again once the boys are grown up and have left home.
Should we decide to move house again, it would more than likely be our last move due to the age my partner and I would be, therefore, we would have to consider what features we would like and need to live comfortably into our old age! It is a scary thought writing that down and reading it back, but it is true and would be an important factor in choosing a new home.
I would love to live in a barn conversion, it is a dwelling which I have always wanted to own but with them having such high price tags I have never been able to do so. Of course, I have no idea if we would be able to get a mortgage for such a beautiful living space, but it would be an amazing home in which to enjoy our ‘golden’ years. The interior would be minimal in its decoration, because I would want the beauty of the wooden beams and brick work of the barn to be showcased.
I would love it to have a wood burner for cosy nights in the winter, a sunken bath for luxurious and relaxing bath time, open plan living space and enough rooms to accommodate our boys and their families when they came to stay with us, so 3-4 bedrooms would be plenty. Although I would not want the house to be too large because I need to think about the upkeep of it as I got older! It would still very much need to be a family home but, of course, it is unlikely to be more than that the two of us living in it the majority of the time.
I spend a lot of time in my kitchen, so I would need to have a beautiful one in my next home: spacious and practical with a lovely view out of the window. I would love it to have an island so we could choose between eating in the kitchen just the two of us, or entertaining family or friends in the dining room. I would love to have a few kitchen gadgets to enjoy aswell, one of which would be a coffee maker because it would be like having my own coffee shop in my one home, to serve myself and anyone who popped in for a cup and a slice of cake. Having recently sampled the delights of the coffee made by the Sage Oracle, this would be a machine I would love to have on my kitchen counter (just don’t tell my OH how much it retails for LOL!).
But at the end of the day, as much as I would love to live in such a dream house should we move again, in reality maybe we would end up having to downsize rather than upsize depending on how old we are when we make the move. Therefore, a modest 1 or 2 bedroom flat might have to be our future abode instead! Of course, wherever we choose to live next, we need to work out the best mortgage to apply for and find a home which we both love and can see ourselves being happy in.
