This Thursday I am hosting an Ice Age party in association with Sky Movies , and the boys are so excited and have been counting down the last 4 weeks and think its the best thing to happen since….well the last party we had! As with all parties I host, as much as I LOVE thinking up ideas of what food to make and serve, and what games to play to entertain the guests, it can be a little stressful hoping everything will go to plan, and that the guest will turn up and they will have fun!
As with any party I always like to check the internet for ideas, as Joy says this might be an obvious idea but do check out Pinterest for inspiration – there’s a wealth of information on parties and your particular theme may well be there too . Having done a few pinterest boards myself on ideas for themes I have done for the boys birthdays previously, I do create boards and pin lots of ideas on to them. Some of which I will use or adapt in some way – got to love pinterest. My Ice Age board is coming along nicely now

So food, I always end up doing too much and I do have a few ideas based on what the boys like, but with an Ice Age twist. I want to keep it simple so that I can get lots of prep done in the morning and maybe even the day before – it just saves lots of last minute rushing about I find, especially with the boys being around. I like this idea that Liz suggested of serving pizza, where they add their own toppings. Saves lots of money and means everyone gets what they like. If you don’t want the mess, set it up as you as a chef for people to ‘order’ from you. Also as we are watching Ice Age at the end of the party, popcorn is a must to accompany any film, and this yummy recipe for chocolate popcorn from Aly sounds amazing, bit like rocky road but with popcorn.Add melted marshmallows, dried fruit, smashed biscuits, nuts (if no one is allergic) and cover in lots of melted milk chocolate.Leave in the fridge for about an hour or until set then serve.
So what to do with your guests when they arrive? I do have a few party games sorted but I find that people tend to arrive at different times so it is nice to have something that keeps them occupied from the moment they arrive. I really like this idea from Jenny where she suggests have something to do while everyone arrives – be that decorate their party bag, name a plate or do some colouring. Colouring is good because it calms down the party hype and they can always take it home if they don’t finish it.
I have been doing a little prep with the boys this afternoon – I do not want to give too much away before the BIG event but here are a few clues as to some of the ideas my Ice Age party will feature:
So wish me luck, and please come back in a few days to see how the party went and what we got up to with Sky Movies #movieparty and my Ice Age theme.
