Having two boys, I do not have to worry too much about the choice of clothes available to them like I would if I had daughters, as boys just do not have the range and variety like girls do. Plus they play rough and tumble so most clothes end up messy!! Today’s guest post is a good read to get an insight into dressing daughters.

If you have a daughter you will know that her wardrobe is likely to grow to ten times the size of yours, probably in the first few weeks of her life. But whilst these outfits are growing by the day, so is she! Therefore, it is important to get it right. Here are some rules for dressing little girls, so while you struggle with what you want in your wardrobe, you don’t have to worry about hers.

1. Gone are the days when boys were stereotypically dressed in blue and girls were dressed in pink, with more parents now opting for gender-neutral clothing. There has been much debate surrounding this topic , but the fact is just because she is a girl doesn’t mean she will want or has to wear pink. Plus, clothes are expensive and kids grow out of them so fast, neutral clothing means if your next child is a boy he won’t have to wear a pink dress!

2. Let them choose, or at least have a say in what they wear so she doesn’t head out to school in her knickers. But, dress your daughter for her and not you. You may have always dreamed of having a little girl so you can dress her up in glitter and sequins, but if she would rather wear a matching Batman combo then she should be able to.

3. But, don’t dress her like an adult . Kids grow up too fast as it is, and want to grow up faster than they should. Keep them in age appropriate clothing whilst you can, before the arguments start over how short her skirt can be as she leaves the house to meet her friends.

4. Girls love to dress-up. A Princess dress will allow her to feel grown-up without actually looking like an adult!

5. As much as she loves her Cinderella dress, she can’t live in it. A way to keep her outfits fun, so she wants to wear them just as much as her Princess dress, is with great Disney fashion for girls .

6. Most girls will want to feel fashionable even from a young age because, well they are girls. With Frozen 2 officially announced , an Elsa-inspired outfit will ensure she remains the playground fashion icon.

7. When dressing girls it is important to remember that shoes and accessories are just as important as the clothing!

8. Don’t go for designer. You don’t want to be spending too much money, as she will have grown out of it before you know it. There are plenty of bargains to be had, which will still provide her with a choice of outfits she will love.

9. Likewise, when choosing what to dress her in, remember that girls get just as messy as as boys. Most clothes are likely to get covered in tomato ketchup and mud, or ripped long before they are grown out of.

10. It is important when dressing your little girl that she is comfortable and able to move freely and safely, particularly during playtime. There is nothing worse than trying to navigate an obstacle course at the playground in a restricting dress.

With all this in mind it is clear to see why her wardrobe is so big, and will only continue to grow. A girl has to have an outfit for every occasion!
