Hidden Bed Secrets

pt_9436

I love my bed. I love collapsing into it at the end of the day and drifting off to sleep all cosy and comfy. Of course when I was a child, I never wanted to go to bed – adamant that I was not tired at bedtime and not appreciating all those hours of sleep I had back then!

When my brother and I were kids the underneath of beds were well used and popular hide and seek hiding spots. I remember hiding underneath my grandparent’s bed when I was very young, and giggling away at my brilliant hiding place, while trying hard not to be heard by my brother as he hunted for me!  The underneath of my bed as a pre teenager was a great hiding place for secret belongings too. I used to own a diary and I would hide that under my bed, away from prying eyes! During my first year as a student I had a shoe box full of love letters from my then boyfriend, which I would keep beneath my bed.  When I left university and shared many flats with friends and my ex boyfriend, storage was always a problem because I could not afford to have much furniture of my own back then. therefore, yet again, the floor space beneath my bed became a useful place to store shoes and jumpers and bags!

Ok, so maybe the underneath of my bed was also a haven for clutter – a place to stash things whenever I was tidying up and was in a rush! Come on now, I am sure we have all done that!!!?? I will admit that even now, as a grown woman with children there are still times when I have shoved small items under my bed when I am trying to make my room look tidy. I don’t think my boys do it intentionally, but it makes me smile when I pull out Jenson’s bed to vacummn it, because I always find all sorts of little treasures on the floor!!

Nowadays though, beds are so low to the ground that you would have to be the size of a teddy bear to be able to hide beneath one. In fact all I find underneath mine or the kids beds nowadays is dust, toys and odd socks! Not being a fan of too much furniture in my bedroom, to have a bed which contained a clever storage system which is easily accessed and perfectly hidden would be just brilliant! Imagine all the christmas presents you could hide away without being found by your kids, or all those clothes or shoes that you could sneak in without your partner seeing which you could gradually introduce into your wardrobe over time ….. oh those things? Oh I have had those for ages!!

Just imagine how much money could be stuffed under a mattress with one of those clever storage beds, lol!
