Most Valued Kitchen Utensil

 mykettle

I have been trying to think what is my favourite kitchen gadget – that appliance or utensil that I could not do without as I go about my everyday life. I love my Kenwood Mixer, and I do not think I could be without my dishwasher anymore because it is such a time saver. However, then I thought about how many cups of tea I enjoy and I realised that my kettle was probably my favourite kitchen appliance, because of how much I love drinking tea!

This got me thinking back to the days when I owned my little cafe before I had the boys, because of all the catering equipment which made my business able to operate,  I think that my favourite one was my coffee machine. Even though it was a gamble, because previous to me owning it, the cafe had made hot drinks using a tea urn, and this coffee machine was not only big expense to me, but my staff were all a little unsure as to whether it would pay off. It did of course, and serving lattes and cappacinos to my customers proved to be very successful – yay!

I asked some fellow bloggers what their most prized kitchen gadget or tool is or what item they would love to own:

Tongs – ideally silicon ended non-stick ones. How much I love my tongs (don’t shout at me) – the day after the accident I ended up sitting on the floor in the kitchen, taking the kickboards off the bottom of the units to retrieve the pair of tongs that had fallen out the draw and down the back. What I’d love – more space and then a juicer, a bread maker (except I’d be the size of a house) and one of those waffle makers  …. silicon spatulas too – although they take all the fun out of licking the bowl afterwards
Jenny

ooo a silicon spatula! Amazing how much more cake mix can be gotten out of a bowl with one. For the cake time obvs, not to lick off the spoon. Well maybe just a bit…And my Vitamix, which currently I used for cake mix!
Annie

Most humble but useful is the potato peeler IMO, one I hanker after is the Kitchen Aid – colour yet to be decided.
Mari

Too obvious for me to say a slow cooker but I love my hand blender.Great for soups, pesto, dressing, guacamole, hummus, pate, etc
Ali

My weighing scales as they give the rest of my family the confidence to cook (and teaches the younger ones maths)
Joy

Diswasher. For the days when Mr R decides to cook and manages to use every single thing we have in the kitchen (and I am not joking!)
Emma

My waffle machine. Without a doubtt. I can do dinner in it, fancy puddings, breakfast. And is also a great conversation piece
Tanya

I do love my kitchen aid though it is totall extravagant and not really necessary. We also now live from our bread machine. We rarely buy “normal bread” now and no way I would make it from scratch. Potatoe peeler would be every day gadget of choice followed by cheese grater!
Maggy

Mine is my OXO cherry/olive pip remover
Jayne

Mine is the rather antiquated Breville Hand Blender that I make my breakfast smoothies in (held together with blue tak) I would LOVE one of those Nutri Bullets to replace it (fancy a waffle maker,,,,
Ali

Nespresso machine. Couldn’t live without it
Helen

My stick blender. Revolutionised soup making for me!
Liz

My favourite is my Kitchen Aid because it’s beautiful AND useful, I wouldn’t be without my good knife and I would love an ice cream maker!
Chris

Coffee machine goes without saying, right? In which case, it’s my Joseph Joseph scoopy thing. Ideal for emptying half-eaten bowls of soggy cereal without getting sink clogged with cereal bits, draining veg, scooping things out of bathtubs, hoiking eggs out of boiling water….
Kelly

I couldn’t be with out my Breville Blend Active – the kids have never eaten as much fruit since we got ours
Cass
