New York is indisputably one of the world’s great cities, and there’s plenty in the city to entertain children of all ages.

Central Park

One of the most famous parks in the world, Central Park, has a variety of activities that are designed to appeal to children, and indeed people of every age. In the North Woods area of the park is a ravine, and close to that is the unique boulder Huddlestone Arch. There’s also the opportunity to see some of the park’s cute inhabitants, including possums, squirrels and raccoons.

Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden is a globally famous entertainment venue in New York. The wide range of entertainment to be found here includes music concerts, basketball matches and WWE wrestling, featuring the likes of family favourite Hulk Hogan.

American Museum of Natural History

At Central Park West is the American Museum of Natural History, which will certainly be appreciated by children who are fascinated by dinosaurs. Here, there’s also an enormous model of a blue whale in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, and the museum’s butterfly conservatory is home to a superb collection of live tropical butterflies.

Empire State Building

Arguably the most famous skyscraper in the world, the Empire State Building offers such spectacular views that they will live in the memory for a lifetime. As well being able to view the whole of New York City from the 86th floor, on a clear day it’s possible to see even a lot further than that. The building’s links to famous movies such as King Kong also underline the magic of this skyscraper, which has endured now for over 80 years.

Hiking Trails

Though New York City is thought of as one of the world’s busiest cities there are certainly tranquil places to be found for a day’s hiking with the kids. Forest Park in Queens has a collection of appealing animals such as raccoons, squirrels and chipmunks, as well as beautiful oak and hickory trees in a magical setting of hills and valleys. On Staten Island there’s High Rock Park, which includes Greenbelt Nature Center, which will be of interest to children with its collection of nature exhibits.

From concerts to green parks, New York is a fun-fest for kids and grown-ups alike. It’s impossible to squeeze every activity into just one holiday there – so make sure you return one day to carry on the adventure.

  1. I’d love to go to New York! We were planning a trip there for our 10 year anniversary but my Sister is getting married the week after it so I think we’ll have to wait! z
