I have a confession. I am a terrible biscuit baker. When I watch the biscuit rounds on the Great British Bake Off, I always think to myself that if I ever appeared on the show, the biscuit test would see me leaving with my apron between my legs!!! Cakes I can make no problem but biscuts always seem to fail me.
So, how wonderful to be able to buy homemade biscuits on line which you and your children can decorate at home? Welllllll now you can! BKD are a kid’s baking company based in London who have recently launched baking kits including 3D Dinosaur Biscuits, Alphabet Biscuits (Personalised), Pinwheel Biscuit Pops and Little Monster Cupcake Kits. So good are these baking kits, that BKD have been nominated for two awards, the Virgin Foodpreneur Fest 2014 and the Mumpreneur 2014, because of how fab they are!
Therefore, when I was recently asked if the boys and I would like to test out a kit (of which I could choose whichever set I like from the list I mentioned above), I jumped at the chance, because I figured it would be nice for the boys to have some ‘proper’ homemade biscuits to decorate lol!! Therefore, I chose the Alphabet Biscuits and I was allowed to have the letters which make up Burton and Jenson’s names
As you can see you are sent everything you need to get decorating and inside a lovely box too. The smell of vanilla as you open the biscuits is lovely, very comforting and homemade like. I know that these biscuits were freshly made, because about 2 days before I received them I saw this on my Instagram timeline (spot the well known names!)
Anyway, the biscuits are a great size for decorating and enable little hands to get stuck in to make their own designs
The boys LOVED this activity and they spent ages eating using the decorations to cover their biscuit shapes. They did find the red a little hard to squeeze out of the tube for some reason, but the blue and yellow icings came out much more easily. I think these biscuits kits are a briliant idea and would make a great activity for a childrens party, especially if you are a busy mum who either cannot find the time or , like me, is not a good biscuit baker. The 3D dinosaurs and pinwheel biscuit pops would go down very well I am sure. Or you could get the initial of each party guests name as a party activity – all children love decorating food they can eat. Not just that, but they would make a wonderful gift too as they box they arrive in is just like a gift box.
As BKD says, biscuit or cupcake decorating gives children a lot of skills too:
• Helps to improve reading and maths skills
• Encourages children to see a task through from beginning to end
• Listening to instructions aids concentration
• Baking gives kids a lifelong skill
• Planning and making choices teaches responsibility
• Creates a curious and positive association with food Improves motor skills – both fine and gross
• Demonstrates the value of working as a team and taking turns
• Builds confidence, self esteem, they feel a sense of accomplishment
• Nurtures relationships and promotes bonding
• Creative endeavours fuel kids’ imaginations
• Organisational and time management skills are learned
• Knowledge of food hygiene and cleanliness is vital for wellbeing
Priced at £16.99, I think for what you get and the quality and freshness of the biscuits, this is a good price point, and I will be bearing this in mind for a certain someone’s party next March!!!
I was sent a biscuit kit for the purpose of a review. All comments made are honest and my own.
