Over the weekend we moved out of our house and into temporary accommodation. Although packing and moving is stressful and a bit of a nightmare generally, I did discover a few things.
Things I didn’t know until I moved:
1. How many shoes I own
No lie I manage to fill an IKEA sized bag with various shoes, boots, pumps etc… I could open a shoe shop! For the last four years I have had all these items of footwear lurking in my attic and now it’s like I have about 25 pairs of new shoes!
2. How many reusable bags I have collected
As with the shoe collection I seem to have hoarded a bundle of reusable shopping bags in particular Sainsburys one from my cafe owning days which I put away in the loft and forgot about!
3. How much dust can gather behind a fridge/freezer over 4 years.
I almost took a photo but decided it was a little embarrassing. However, in my defence it’s not something I could have pulled out myself very easily to clean behind anyway. Let me just say that it look liked my floor had grown a little dusty grey beard and my skirting had some bum fluff!!
4. I still have some photos that belong to my ex who I split up with in 2004!
Did I throw them out? No, I have packed them up again but have made mental note to contact him to see if he wants them back
5. What actually lurks in my bathroom cabinet
I could probably open another shop – this time a Boots or Superdrug for all the toiletry products I had in there. Now I just need to use them!
6. I still had a huuuuuge bag (another reusable one) filled with pre Burton underwear .
Bras and knickers that are too small for me now. And some La Senza sexy lingerie which have hardly been worn as before we moved to the house we lived with OH’s parents, and I had bought and saved up my alluring garments for when we moved, but then when we did I fell pregnant so the items were wasted!
7. I am useless at throwing things out.
I did take some clothes to the clothes banks at my nearest Tesco and I did throw a fair bit of stuff away and have some to friends, and yet I still have soooooo much stuff! Do I really need it all? No. Will I get rid of it? No. Therefore, when moving to a new house you may need to use a van driver service for all appliances to be delivered quickly. Learn more.
8. How long it takes to move stuff out of your house and clean it when you don’t hire professionals
3 days!!
9. What the inside of my neighbours house looked like!
Next door to us lives an elderly lady called Vera who is in her 80’s, and she is really lovely and friendly. She has lived at number 26 all her married life, except about 5 years ago she divorced her husband as she had had enough of him! So now her son and his wife live with her. Anyway, my Hoover packed in so I popped next door to ask if I could borrow theirs and I was invited in to fetch it. It amazes me how two identical houses can look virtually the same from the outside and yet so different from the inside. Theirs is very old fashioned and dated. And sadly for me and my remaining floors, so was their Hoover!
10. Mr Muscle oven cleaner isn’t all it’s cracked up to be
It reads on the can that no scrubbing is required! Pah! For the amount of scrubbing I undertook I should have some ‘guns’ myself now – Mrs Muscle should be my new nickname!
11. I shouldn’t have created more bags and a box full of what I like to call ‘bits and bobs’.
Seriously, it’s just a lazy way of taking yet more crap important items to the next house with promises that I will go through it when I have more time and be ruthless then. This will not happen. It will just either a). stay where they are for the foreseeable future or b). Get added too as time goes on.

I actually never want to move house because of the amount of clutter and stress it would cause! Hope it all went well and that you have a well deserved glass of wine tonight! x

That really made me laugh! I totally understand the fridge thing as we had to buy a new fridge last year and the delivery men took the old one away and I was mortified! I hope you are all happy in your new home (when you get there) x

I’m never moving house because I can’t face emptying the attic!

Most our stuff from Ireland is still packed in my in-law’s garage over there – I know it includes memory boxes for each child and toys. What else I daren’t imagine as we still seem to have filled a much bigger house than we had before!! I hope we don’t have to move again in a long time. Xx
