Yesterday we said goodbye to my Na.
During his service (which was not a religious one, as per his wishes) two poems were read out, as chosen by my Mum and Nanny, which I thought were beautifully poignant, and I think would be of comfort to anyone who has lost a loved one.
‘Don’t think of him as gone away’
Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
When God saw you getting tired
When God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
He put his arms around you
And whispered come to me
He didn’t like what you went through
And he gave you rest
His garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best
And when we saw you sleeping
So peaceful and free from pain
We wouldn’t wish you back
To suffer that again
Today we say goodbye
And as you take your final rest
That garden must be beautiful
Because you are one of the best.

What lovely poems and what a lovely last photo of you Na too. So sorry for your loss. It takes such time to process. I lost my nan a couple of years ago just after my son was born. We were very close and I still miss her a great deal xx
