There is nothing quite like a visit to the beach to blow away the cobwebs and bring some colour to your cheeks. Last Tuesday was dry and sunny (isn) in the morning, so I packed the boys up and we headed off to Westward Ho! which is about a 20 minutes drive from our house.Β
It was VERY blustery and we were wrapped up with lots of layers and hats and wellington boots for the boys which was just aswell given the huge puddles they found to wade through on the way back to the car!
They learnt that stones can be big, small, flat and rounded. They can be grey, white and almost blue looking and can be heavy if you try to pick up a big one! They can also hurt if you fall over on them!! There are also lots of shapes and textures to explore: smooth pebbles, dry driftwood, wet sand, irregular wooden planks (of the walkway), and the splashing of water in the different shaped puddles we discovered.
Here are Burton and Jenson enjoying Westward Ho! pebble beach
We took two small pebbles home with us (ssshhhh its a secret!) and the boys enjoyed ‘decorating’ them with felt tip pens for some stone art (kind of!)
Burton also drew this picture the next day of the three of us splashing in the waves !!

That looks fun and sensible. We decided it was cold (and far) to our local beach today and so ended up buying a sandpit and putting it in the living room lol.
I love how they are all wrapped up with hats and wellies.
The secret pebbles are great too.

I’m going to see how far that is for us. I’m sad that we are so far away from the coast. The pebbles look fab, I’d be tempted to go for a big one to use a door stop π

Westward Ho! That’s heading our way isn’t it? I have always been curious to see what it was like – the only town in the country with a ! in the name. Did you manage the day with out a change of clothes for the boys? Mine always get wet if we go to the beach! Love the pebble colouring, might just have to try this one too. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids.
