For The Buttercream
75g unsalted butter
125g icing sugar
25g cocoa powder
1-2 tbsp milk (maybe)
For The Cake Topping
50g milk chocolate
packet of giant orange flavoured chocolate buttons (Tate & Lyle)
chocolate strands
Grease and line 2 sandwich tins and pre heat the oven to 180oC / 160oC fan
Cream the butter and sugar together until pale and creamy
Add the flour and eggs and mix until combined
Then divide the cake batter into two bowls
In 1 bowl add the orange zest and stir through
In the 2nd bowl ad the cocoa powder and orange juice and combine
Pour the batter, one bowl at a time, in to each cake tin and using a knife swirl both batters together a bit to make a marble pattern
Bake for about 20-25 minutes until risen and cooked right through
Allow the sponges to cool down thoroughly
Make the buttercream by whizzing the butter until soft and then add the cocoa powder and icing sugar and beat until creamy – you may need to add a little milk (1 tbsp at a time) to make it of a nice gloopy consistency ideal for spreading.
Then melt the chocolate – place the milk chocolate and half the orange buttons in bowl and either place in the microwave for 30 second intervals until melted (takes about 2 minutes in total) or place over a saucepan of cold water on a low heat and melt.
Now the sponges are cool to the touch, sandwich them together with your buttercream
The spread the melted chocolate over the top and decorate with the button and chocolate strands
And thats it
Chocolate Orange Marble Cake – done!!
Thank you xx

That looks amazing and I love Chocolate Orange so will definitely be adding this to my list of cakes to make. Do you think the buttercream would work with some orange flavouring in it or is best just as chocolate to counter the orange in the sponge? Love the marble effect in the sponge.
