I have been tagged in a very special and worthwhile meme by Mum2babyinsomniac , in aid of Save The Children.

Here are mine:
My best friend Kimberly has been training to be a midwife for the last 3 years. She was present during both of my labours and helped me through the pain while I took deep breaths and almost squeezed her hand off! She will soon be part of our Country’s wonderful team of midwifery professionals, without whom our birthing experiences could be so very different. I was lucky to have this support, both emotionally and pain relieving, during each pregnancy and birth. Sadly, mums-to-be in Africa are not as fortunate. I am so grateful to be born in this country and to have such a wonderful health service at my disposal.
I think Britain has one of the best health services in the world which is supported by a team of hard working, dedicated health professionals. When I think of the friends and family I know who have had their lives saved or improved by the national health service it is astounding really. How lucky we are that if we have an ailment or need our children’s health investigated we can either speak to healthcare professionals 24 hours a day on a dedicated telephone service; make an appointment to see a GP or in the case of an emergency go to a hospital!
Thankfully, neither myself or my children have had anything seriously wrong with us medically. However, I am comforted in the knowledge that should anything happen to them, I can rely on a health worker to look after them and (hopefully) make them better. this is something that we Brits take for granted, I think, because we don’t know anything different because we have been fortunate enough to have access to a health service and its team of doctors, nurses and midwives.
So imagine then how awful it must be not to have health workers at your disposal; not to have hospitals within easy reach; not to have enough midwives, nurses and doctors – a shortfall which can mean your child dying from a simple ailment like diarrhoea and pneumonia. These are illnesses that we are able to treat and prevent in the UK, but sadly in the world’s poorest countries 8 million children under five die. They also die as a result of a lack of inoculations being administered due to this low health worker crisis. it is just so hard to contemplate isn it?
8 million children will not get to live past the age of 5 – that is a shocking statistic in this day and age, wouldn’t you agree? 8 million children not being able to fulfil their potential of being born to live – every child whatever their background and circumstance deserves the right to LIVE.
If you agree then please hurry along and sign the Save The Children petition. This petition is being taken to David Cameron at the UN General Assembly in New York by our own fellow blogger and all round lovely lady, Christine Mosler and Liz Scarff from Save The Children. it is asking the PM to play his part in helping to resolve this health worker shortfall and 60,000 signatures are hoped for by this Tuesday.
So if you can spare a little bit of your time please:

Beautifully written. I think I went a bit over the 100 word count too. Like 150 words over. But when I get really passionate about something I just keep typing. And I’m simply rubbish at editing.
You’ve written a really heartfelt post, and if I hadn’t already I’d be heading off to sign that petition. X
Natasha
Thanks for the tag! It really is hard to imagine living somewhere with no access to help for us and our children isn’t it, unthinkable x
