Postman Pat
Postman Pat
Postman Pat and his black and white cat……
Sound familiar?
Good old Postman Pat he has been delivering mail to the residents of Greendale for almost 30 years now!! Can you believe it? I am older than Postman Pat *hangs head in disbelief*
Postman Pat is actually the longest running animated TV series on the BBC, and he has come a long way from the early days when he only had his van (which also acted as a mini bus for the Greendale residents) to recent times when he has use of a helicopter and motorbike with his special delivery service.
To celebrate Pat’s 30th birthday on 16th September, CBeebies will be showing back to back episodes with a Postman Pat theme running through it’s schedule all morning. There will also be events held around Britain for Pat fans everywhere to join in with his birthday celebrations!
However, from 12th September you will be able to buy a limited edition Postman Pat DVD which is being released to coincide with him turning 30. The DVD is packed with 8 episodes and a party CD with 15 songs, which will get every little postie dancing along!
Burton and I were sent a preview copy of the DVD to watch and it was really enjoyable. What I loved the most was seeing how Pat has evolved over the past 30 years. When all is said and done, I much prefer the old skool episodes to the modern day ones. I think the old ones are purer somehow and it’s just him, Jess and his van. None of this special delivery service malarky where he can operate helicopters and motorbikes!! I guess that maybe you prefer what you grew up with the best? I think the old episodes would still be enjoyed by kids today.
I had forgotten that the show used to be narrated by the voice of Pat, and that the earlier ones only had two voice talents to cover all the characters!! I had also forgotten that even at the start Pat had a wife and son, I thought his son at least was introduced later on. Maybe I didn’t watch it as much as I thought I had!
Anyway, the DVD is a great mix of old and new episodes. The first one is actually about Pat’s birthday with his friends and family trying to host a surprise party for him, and Pat thinking no one has remembered that it is birthday.
We both enjoyed this DVD – maybe me a little more as I found it fascinating to see how the Postman Pat show has evolved over the years. It was a real trip down memory lane!
The Postman Pat Happy Birthday Pat DVD will be available from all good retailers from 12th September,2011.
Thank you xx
