Dealing with the Post-Holiday Blues

There is nothing quite like a vacation to rejuvenate and enjoy the summer. Although a holiday will do you plenty of good in the long run, the “post-holiday blues” are very much a real thing where you have feelings of sadness and sometimes anxiety at the end of the trip and when you return home. So, what are a few effective ways to beat the post-holiday blues?

Easy Journey Home

The post-holiday blues often start on the last day of the trip when you have the reality of going home settling in. This means that you need to make the journey home as simple and stress-free as possible so that you feel relaxed when you get through the front door. This might involve pre-booking your train tickets online in advance, such as Gatwick Airport to Brighton tickets.

Enjoy Home Comforts

Although the idea of going back home can be sad after a lovely holiday, people often find that there are a few home comforts that they look forward to. This might involve sleeping in your own bed, enjoying food that you could not get on holiday, curling up on the sofa in front of the TV and spending time with a pet.

Unpack

It is easy to dump your suitcase and postpone unpacking after a vacation but you are better off unpacking sooner rather than later as this will help you to get back into your routine and feel settled. Putting a large clothes wash on and unpacking your suitcase will hp you to get out of “holiday mode”.

Exercise

People will often indulge in food and drink when they are on vacation and may not do any exercise. This can have a negative impact on your mental (and physical) health which is a big reason why people often have negative feelings when returning home especially if they are used to exercising regularly. Easing your way back in with a light run, gym session or any other type of exercise can help to alleviate post-holiday blues and give you a boost.

Have Something to Look Forward To

Another reason that people often feel low after a holiday is that there will have been so much planning and excitement over the trip which has now ended. Therefore, having something to look forward to can help you to feel better whether this is another holiday, a night out with friends, a trip to the cinema etc.

It is perfectly natural to get the post-holiday blues after a vacation but these tips should help you to avoid these and feel happy and refreshed after your trip.
