Thank you to everyone who linked up this week. I swear it gets harder to choose my Star bakers as each week passes, and this week was no exception. The work that went into some of this weeks bakes, was staggering so thank you very much 🙂
For those of you who are unaware, the baking theme for week 6 was Botanical and the categories were:
Signature : Citrus Meringue Pie
Technical : 2 French Herb Fougasse Breads
Showstopper : 3 Tiered Flower Cake
So with no further ado, here are my Star Bakers for week 6
Citrus Meringue Pie
All of the recipes linked up for this looked amazing – I was drooling as I read all of the posts. Seriously so many delicious flavoured curds, perfect peaked meringues and pie bases – both pastry made and one using ginger nuts which I like the idea of when serving with a zingy lemon curd. In the end though, despite loving the look of Anca’s which was VERY pretty, and this fabulous looking GF version using lime & mandarin , I am going with this one by Angela as I love how she incorporated thyme into the pastry base
Fougasse
I have never tried this bread before, but all of your recipes looked so good and I bet they all smelt as good as they all tasted. Many of you followed Mr Hollywood’s recipe – he would be pleased about that! In the end I am going with a flavour that sounds really unusual of all the ones linked up – Lemon and Lime (plus thyme) Fougasse by Vohn.
3 Tiered Flower Cake
Sooooo many gorgeous looking cakes for this round , it was tough. It still is tough as even as I write this I am not sure which one to pick! So I have now decided to go with two Star Bakers for this round , and I will explain why. Firstly look at this cake from Kat – I loved the flavours of elderflower and lemon plus orange and honey, and all the edible handmade floral decorations she made too – so very pretty.
However, Kat’s cake was only 2 tiers which is not a problem at all, but Hazel did 3 which was a lot of effort to go too. Her cake looks stunning too – so pretty and would make an amazing wedding or celebration cake.
However, the flowers an herbs as fabulous as they are on the cake, are not handmade like the ones on Kat’s cake, and this is why I am awarding two badges.
Phew! I hope that made sense!
Please let me know if you would like a badge emailed to you
Ok so I am looking forward to Dessert Week tomorrow – mmmmmm pudding!!!! How about you?
xx

Angela / Only Crumbs Remain
What a week Jenny! I must say when I heard the other wk the theme was ‘botanical’ week I wasn’t overly enthrawled but having watched the programme and then seen everybody’s bakes I’ve completely changed my mind…it was a great theme with fantastic bakes from everybody. Thankyou too for including my Lemon & thyme meringue pie 🙂
Angela x
Jenny Paulin
well it just goes to show doesn’t it? Your bakes this week were fab and i loved how you incorporated thyme in the pastry x
Vohn's Vittles
Oh my goodness Jenny – thank you so much for awarding me star technical bake in your blogger challenge this week! I really am so chuffed. My lemon & lime fougasse is the first recipe I have developed, rather than just playing bake-a-long, since getting back to blogging after an absence of more than a year. I’m starting to feel like a proper food blogger again! Thanks so much! 😀
Jenny Paulin
you are very welcome – a lovely looking fougasse and i love the creativity of the flavours you used x
