What a fantastic number of amazing bakes for week 1 of the #GBBOBloggers2016, thank you so much to each and everyone of you who took the time to bake something, link it up and to comment. It has been really , really hard trying to choose Star Baker – I have no idea how Mary and Paul do it week in week out. I swear, each year I hold this bake along, it gets harder to pick my favourite/s.
Anyway, for anyone who did not see last weeks Great British Bake Off it was week 1 and the theme was cakes and there were 3 rounds of cakes to choose from:
Signature – Drizzle Cake
Technical – Mary Berry’s Jaffa Cakes
Showstopper – Mirror Glaze Cake
The most popular bakes were drizzle cakes and Jaffa Cakes, although several of you complained that Mary’s recipe was very hard to achieve the end result featured in her photograph. However, having seen all the Jaffa Cakes linked up, I would still eat them all!
Anyway, after spending all evening trying to choose my Star Baker, I have decided to pick 1 Star Baker for each category, seeing as so many of you are joining in and because it is so darn hard to choose between all of your magnificent bakes.
Drizzle Cake
There were so many amazing flavours combined in these cakes. Some of you went for the more traditional lemon, some went for other citrus notes like lime and orange and there was even lavender included. Some were large, some were mini and some were round. All shapes and all flavours and I the end I am going for the one which I think is the most creative in terms of flavour and a great imagination, plus maybe the big kid in me just wants to eat the fizzy cola bottles and popping candy! Also this blogger did an amazing sketch of her cake just like on the TV show
So congratulations to Carole.
Next up were the Jaffa Cakes – so many to choose form. Some used Mary’s recipe, some made a big one, some were even GF and vegan – and to me they all looked yummy because I love chocolate and orange anything! In the end I went for the ones which I feel that when you see all the bakes linked up in my linky – these look the most like actual Jaffa Cakes. Plus they were the subject of a very funny twitter convo over the weekend
Congratulations to Mummy Barrow (aka Tanya)
Finally we move on to the Mirror Glaze Cakes of which 3 of you were brave enough to take this on. I have to take my baking hat off to you, attempting this bake I think is extremely brave and dedicated of you because they involve a lotto time and effort, BUT the finished results are stunning. So well done all 3 of you :). However, in the end it had to be this one just because of the colours of the glaze
Congratulations to Alex
BUT also HUUUUUGE thanks and well done to everyone else.
If the 3 Star Bakers would like badge for their blog like this:
Then please message me so I can email one over.
Next week is biscuit week – aaaagh my baking nemesis , as I am not great at baking biscuits.

Well done star bakers!! Ever since reading about the person who does the illustrations for the programme I fell a little bit more in love so definitely loving the cola drizzle cake! (Maybe a little bit more because it comes with vodka….).
