Last year we needed to make more room in the boys bedroom owning to their ever expanding collection of toys and books, and one easy solution for this was to take out their two toddler beds, which to be honest Burton was almost too big for anyway, and in their place we put some bunk beds.
This was a very exciting and welcome plan for Burton and Jenson as they had been asking us to let them have bunk beds for months, ever since we had been away on holiday to Butlins and their room had some inside. I was worried that Jenson would fall out being the youngest and, like me, a little clumsy. However, he has been fine, although Burton fell out a few times, just swell he is on the bottom bunk!
I remember my brother and I sharing the same excitement when we had bunk beds as children. He slept on the top bunk, which seemed a little unfair seeing as though I was the eldest, but I guess it is because he was the lightest maybe! Weirdly enough my main recollection of sleeping in bunk beds with my brother is not the nicest memory really, but of course this was always bound to stick in my mind. One night my brother was sick, and of course being on the top bunk – well you can imagine the mess it made being sprayed all over our bedroom! I do not envy my Mum having to clean all that up!!!
Anyway, as much as Burton and Jenson love sleeping in their bunk beds, it will not be for much longer as soon they will each have their own bedrooms and, of course, their own beds. This is a very exciting prospect for the boys, as they have always shared a bedroom, and they are already asking a lot of questions about what type of bed can they have and what colour can the walls in their rooms be, and so on. They both really like the idea of having their own bunk bed but their Daddy and I feel that having a study bunk each is a much better idea, because it is a little self contained bed that can store their bits and bobs, and as they get older the added desk will prove useful for homework or even just sitting at to do drawing and colouring. Plus having steps to climb into their bed will make the boys feel like they have a bunk bed of their own, which will make them both happy.
