Does your child have a birthday in the autumn? Are you throwing a Halloween party, or do you just want to celebrate the changing of the seasons? It seems there are plenty of excuses to bake a cake this autumn! You can really capture the spirit of the season with the right flavour combinations and decorations, from fondant leaves to sugary pumpkins. Here are a few ideas to help you take your autumn party to the next level of deliciousness!

Halloween cake ideas
With Halloween right around the corner, now is a good time to bust out the spooky Halloween decorations for your cake. Frost it with black and orange, create an elaborate spider web in icing, or dot the perimeter with marzipan pumpkins. Do you have a particular theme for your Halloween party? Match your Captain America costume with a superhero-themed cake. Monster cakes are always fun to decorate. You can pipe coloured icing to create the details of a funny or scary monster as needed. Cupcakes can be great for autumnal parties, and if you’re going with a Halloween theme you can make them in the shapes of miniature ghosts, coffins, or jack o’lanterns.
Seasonal flavours
Aside from the Halloween cakes, another way to use autumn themes in your party baking is by incorporating seasonal flavours. There’s the ubiquitous pumpkin spice, but you could also experiment with juicy apple, cinnamon, and carrot to flavour your cake. Orange spiced cakes also feel quite autumnal, and the colour of an orange cake fits in well with the season. Top a spice cake with dried fruit for an extra burst of flavour and pretty colours.
Chocolate flourishes
Chocolate, with its rich earthy tones, is a natural match for cakes this season. You could use chocolate shavings in an intricate spiral to create the illusion of crumpled leaves, or use a mould to chill molten chocolate and form it into leaf shapes to adorn your cake. Even a single leaf makes a chocolate cake look elegant and seasonal.
Fall flowers
Cut the sugar and top your cake with fresh flowers in bursts of bright orange, red, or rust. These are particularly popular decorations for wedding cakes or tea parties, with flowers pretty enough to eat. Create a centre of interest at the top of the cake with a large flower arrangement, and then scatter petals or smaller bunches of flowers around the base. If you don’t want to use real flowers, create them out of fondant.
Festive leaves
Although you can fashion your autumn leaves out of chocolate, as mentioned above, there are also a number of other ingredients you could use in your cakes this season. If you want to craft more colourful leaves, try making them out of marzipan or fondant icing. Top cakes with these sugared leaves and add extra buttercream pumpkins on top for a fun and delicious cake that no one will be able to resist!
Whether you are planning a Halloween party with Funideliafunny costumes and need a spooky monster cake to match, or need a seasonal cake for an upscale birthday party or autumn wedding, these cake toppers and decorations will make sure the finished product is worth the trouble!
