With it being half term this week, I promised the boys that they could take a turn at cooking tea for Daddy and I. Seeing as though Daddy is normally away working all week, I thought it would be nice for them to cook a meal for us all to enjoy. I asked them what they would like to cook, and they said fish and chips – perfect!
We went shopping and purchased our ingredients – some McCain oven chips (crinkly ones!), some microwave chips (because the boys do not like their chips crispy), some breaded cod, frozen peas and some bread from the bakery – oh and some ketchup, of course! It was an easy dinner for them to prep and make.
Despite them being photographed wearing oven gloves and carrying baking trays ready for the oven – I actually placed the trays into the hot oven and removed them aswell.
However, the boys did peel the carrots and butter the bread, aswell as set the table, and cook the peas and chips in the microwave.
It was a delicious tea and it was so nice to have the boys choose and cook our evening meal. They really enjoyed doing it all themselves too.
McCain want to champion the simple joys of real family teatimes this Autumn. So every Thursday night they want to hijack tea time to allow families to connect over food by simply swapping roles and encouraging kids to takeover the cooking in the kitchen. Teatimes can often be overlooked with family members being busy with after school clubs, homework and working late. Therefore, this campaign aims to provide another reason for families to enjoy their teatime in a fun, interactive way and experience the good stuff together.
What meal would your children cook for you if they took over your teatime?

I was asked to take part in the McCain Kids Teatime Takeover and compensated for the food we bought.
