Learning to be a SAH-Mum without my boys

ME

So this weeks see the end of an era for me. Looking back at this photo , it is hard to believe how fast the last few years have passed and got me to this point in my life, and theirs. As of Thursday I will be a SAH…..Mum but actually with no children to take care of anymore! Jenson starts school and I don’t think it has really hit me yet that both my boys will be at school and I will be at home waiting for them. Well, when I say waiting, I won’t be sat around watching TV, reading magazines and getting my nails done!

I will be busy. I need to be and I want to be.  I have been thinking of what I could do with my time for a while now,  and this is what I have come up with:

Blogging
I have been blogging now since May 2009 (yikes! That long!), and even though the majority of my writing is done in the evenings, with only photos being taken in the day, I have been trying to build it up so that once Jenson is at school, I will be able to blog during working hours. After all, I always knew that once both boys were at school I would need to find work, but I also always knew that I wanted, if possible, to work from home, so I would not need to worry about childcare. Luckily for me, my blog is enabling me to do this and I am so grateful to it for that.  Although I must be careful that I do not get sidetracked by my social media accounts

Swimming
Exercise is something I have not kept up since I have had the boys. I mean, as with all Mums, I am always running around after them constantly and tidying up, and it is not like I do not do something with them. But I do miss exercise for me, for my own benefit, and I always made time to swim when I used to work. Therefore, my aim is to start again maybe twice a week, and who knows maybe more once I get myself fitter You never now, I might even join an exercise class at my local leisure centre too.

Housework
Hmmmm, housework is a chore which I do not relish but one which I have been promising I would get on top off once I had no boys around. All that cleaning, sorting, clearing and decluttering. It is not that my house is *that* bad, but  with just me at home I will get the chance to keep on top of it (hopefully) and sort out all of the bags of ‘stuff’ I have stored in my spare room! It will also give me a chance to go through the boys toys once and for all, and get rid of a lot to sell or donate elsewhere.

Be a better Mum
Well hopefully if I have more time to get my jobs done while the boys are at school, I will have more time to dedicate to them during the hours from collecting them at home time until they go to bed. Rather than think, oh I still need to go and make dinner, or I have that cake to photograph before it gets dark, my time with them will just be about being with them. I can reclaim that time and make it all about them and me. I am looking forward to that. Plus, it will mean I can get to bed earlier, because I can get my work done during the day, and I will no longer have to stay up very late to complete it. Therefore, making me less grumpy and less tired, which I am hopping will make me a better and nicer Mummy! Only time will tell I guess!

  1. Oh good luck! I decided to go to college when Miss C headed to school LOL! Madness but it’s fun and it will get me a really good job at the end of it x

  2. Awwww I can’t believe Jenson is starting school, I remember the day he was born! How quickly has that time gone. I’m sure he will absolutely love it though x and that’s a good list. It does feel so so strange not to have z around all day 🙁 I really miss him but I know he loves it there!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, a virtual cup of tea and slice of cake awaits you x
