Happy Birthday Burton Now You Are 6 (A look Back at The Last Year)

Burtonturns6 Collage

Dearest Burton,

So now you are 6! I cannot believe that it has been 6 years since I gave birth to you and met you for the first time! That is just crazy, and it is even more crazy that come September you will joining year 2 at school – where is the time going?

This year has seen you go from strength to strength at school. Your reading still amazes me because I love how you are able to pick up a book, any book, and just read it and make sense of the words in front of you. It makes me so proud to hear you read and see you enjoy reading. Your writing has come on leaps and bounds too – your cursive writing has improved so much these past few months, and I love seeing your little notes! I am so pleased that you enjoy school so much and want to learn. And I am loving your new found love for scrabble – yeah so we have only just started playing, but you seem to enjoy making words on the board and I am chuffed to have a potential new scrabble partner!

You still love swimming and continue your lessons every Saturday morning, and riding your bike and bouncing on the trampoline. You can at last push yourself on the swings, which, while good that I do not have to stand and push you as much (allowing me to push Jenson instead), is not good in that you go so high now and my heart is in my mouth! Recently, you have started indoor wall climbing and loving the time it gives you with Daddy.

However, for all of the proudness I have felt these last 12 months, I have also found myself infuriated by you and your behaviour. Due to the influences of friends at school and older cousins, some of your table manners and general behaviour, have taken a turn for the worse and you can be so defiant and so able to wind me up so easily!! I find myself shouting at you and telling you off all the time, and it has really got me down. I am hoping this is typical behaviour for a 5 year old and a phase and that it will stop one day. You are so well behaved at school (quiet and helpful according to your recent school report), I just wished you were more so at home. It has been really, really hard for me Burton, and as much as I love you so very much,  I have not enjoyed this side of you or the side it brings out in me.

Anyway, you are a good boy deep down, very loving and full of life with such energy and enthusiasm in everything you do. Most of the time you are a good big brother and a wonderful boy.

As is usual with your birthday letters, here is a look back at you in photos from July 2014 until now

Happy 6th birthday my darling boy. I love you so much (despite all my shouting and telling you off) and I am proud of your achievements so far and I look forward to what being 6 will bring you.

Lots of love for always

  1. happy birthday Burton – I’m sure I say it every year, but all the best people have their birthdays on 15th July x

  2. Happy birthday Burton!
I can’t believe I’ve been reading about him for all these years now! I hope you have a lovely day together. He sounds so much like Leo, glad it’s not just my 5 / 6yr old driving me crazy! It gets me down a lot too as I really didn’t think it would be this hard to raise a nice polite boy, he is, when he wants to be, and I guess when he NEEDS to be but is so defiant it makes me want to scream.

He looks so grown up and sounds like he’s getting on so well, it seems strange to think he will be in year 2 when Leo will be going into his first year in September.

  3. Happy birthday Burton! I think they all go through that stage and it’s especially bad when they start school. it isn’t a nice feeling having to tell them off either. Hopefully it’s just a phase and it’ll pass quickly. Hope he’s had a brilliant birthday x

  4. I swear I remember reading about when Burton was 3 not too long ago! Obvisouly it was 3 years ago though, when I’d just started my blog and Mushroom was 1! The time goes so fast…. He sounds like he’s doing well at school! I can’t imagine Mushroom reading…. Lovely photos as always. 🙂

    Happy Birthday Burton!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, a virtual cup of tea and slice of cake awaits you x
