We have many habits that we don’t know interfere with our daily lives. All those harmless-looking routines add up to a messy and disorganized home. Luckily, you can adopt new habits. Put into effect, they will help you cut the clutter in your house. Take a look at these 7 habits that will keep your home neat and tidy.
1. Do the dishes now
Dirty dishes need to be put in the dishwasher or hand washed after each meal. Don’t leave today’s dishes for tomorrow. A sink full of dirty plates looks gross. Besides, if you don’t wash the dishes after each meal, sooner or later you will run out of clean plates and glasses.
If you have a dishwasher, run it before you go to bed. When you get out of bed in the morning, you will only have to put them away. Plus, running the dishwasher at night will save money on electricity.
2. Put coats away
When you get back home, don’t leave your coats on the couch in the living room or – worse – on the floor. Make it a habit to put away all your articles of clothing so that you don’t have to deal with bigger messes later.
3. Take your shoes off
If you want to keep dirt at minimum, shoes will have to be left at the door. No matter if the streets are washed regularly, dirt is still going to find its way onto your shoes and eventually onto your floors and carpets. If you walk barefoot at home, though, you won’t have to worry about that. Neither will you have to mop the floors that often.
4. Dry your bathroom surfaces
For obvious reasons, the room that is most susceptible to dirt and mold build-up is your bathroom. Scrubbing grime from your bathroom surfaces can be a real pain. But if you take the time to dry the tiles and sinks after each use, you will slow down, if not prevent, formation of mold and build-up of dirt. That way, your bathroom will always look nice and presentable between major cleanings.
5. Clean often
Don’t be frustrated by this rule of thumb. Most people decide to clean when the mess becomes unbearable. But because of this they have to deal with much more clutter and dirt than if they clean on the daily. Take the time to vacuum your home and dust all surfaces once a week and your home will stay presentable at all times. If you don’t have enough time for that you could always hire a professional cleaning company like PromptCleaners. No more freaking out when unexpected guests show up at your door. No more major cleaning. Your surfaces will be in great condition and you will save time cleaning.
6. Keep less stuff on your bed
Decorative pillows look so cool that you can’t go without them. But the more you have, the more difficult and time-consuming making your bed becomes. If you have to manage a pile of pillows each morning, chances are you skip over making your bed. So, reduce the amount of decorative or sleeping pillows as well as the blankets you use. Use your bed for its intended purpose, don’t turn it into a storage area.
7. Organise your paper
Piles of mail at the door, newspaper and magazine stacks on the living room table. If you don’t ever get rid of these or at least keep them organized, chances are your home will look cluttered. Make sure to keep your bills organized in a drawer or box. Get rid of magazines and newspapers you don’t need. Keep it tidy and simple.
Adopting a few habits like the ones mentioned above will help you keep clutter and dirt at bay and live in a tidy and neat home.
