Instant Food Reviews

It is strange to think that once upon a time before smart phones and social media and the internet existed, the way to advertise products was to take out advertisements or rely on word of mouth.  Photographs of food eaten by critics might be featured in the press, but food eaten by members of the public either at home, out in a restuarant or on the go was not something we strived to see, and I doubt was something we even considered wanting to be shown either.

Nowadays of course you cannot escape the age of the instant imagery and messages on social media. The photographs of food being consumed, cooked and prepped can be seen 24/7 because thanks to social media, and in particular instagram, these images are everywhere! I only need to check my instagram feed to see tempting and delicious looking food images which often make me feel hungry, and wanting to try some of them out myself at home!!

Mind you I am guilty of using instagram a lot myself, as I often feature my homemade cakes and bakes on it regularly, and it is these photos that get more likes than the ones I upload of my boys!! I spend a lot of my time photographing my food or food I have eaten cooked by someone else to upload to my instagram account. Who would have thought such photos would be of any interest to other people, and yet they are.

I think it is the voyeur inside us all, that enjoys a nosey at what other people are eating and drinking. I have to admit to doing the same whenever I eat out, peering over at the tabes near me to see what the people sat there have ordered.

Instagram is also a great place to see what people are eating when they are out and about , and it gives me a chance to instantly see a review of a restaurant simply by looking on my phone, and searching for relevant hashtags. It is like having a constant food review through my phone screen, which I browse at from the comfort of my home. I think it is actually a genius concept that anyone can gage what others think of the food they have eaten in a certain eating establishment just by seeing an instant photo message.  And let’s face it, seeing a plate of food presented in photo form on instagram can help promote a restuarant far more than adverts ever could. A negative comment accompanied by a photo and a hashtag is not going to encourage us to visit an establishment, and it is not what that business wants to see blasted all over social media either!

Afterall, it is a form of word of mouth isn’t it?

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, a virtual cup of tea and slice of cake awaits you x
