Yesterday afternoon Jenson took part in his first ever Sports Day, in fact he has beaten Burton actually as he has never participated in one at all yet (although his school one is next week). Because Burton is off school at the moment with a poorly tummy, he was able to come to watch Jenson too which he really enjoyed and he was shouting encouraging words to his little brother, and kept going over and hugging him in between races. I think secretly Burton wanted to take part in the races!
The pre school split the children up into 6 groups dependant on their ages, and there were 5 races in total:
jumping in hoops and running (just running in the end)
scooter race
egg and sppon race
running
sack race
Jenson did really well and it was lovely watching him happy to join in with his fellow pre schoolers and happily take part in all of the races.
Jenson did not reach the finish line 1st in any of his races but that does not matter – the smile on his face was enough for me to see how much he enjoyed himself. And anyway, all of the children were given a certificate and a medal for taking part. As the pre school staff leader said, it is the taking part that matters and not who wins or loses, and I could not agree more. I was very pleased when they informed us parents that they had been telling the childen this in the morning, because it is a sensible and healthy sporting attitude to adopt. Don’t get me wrong when they become older I want my children to try to win and succeed at everything thery do, BUT it is far more important to me that they tried to win even if they do not. As my Mum always told me growing up, just do the best you can d. If you have done your very best, then I cannot ask anymore of you
He was so proud of his prizes too – bless him.

Well done to Jenson, it’s great to watch your children taking part at sports day – I only have two left now the triplets are in Year 5. Thanks for linking up and sharing the fun with Country Kids and I hope Burton gets well very soon.

Ahhhh that’s so cute, I love his little certificate and medal. Z had his last week and he just ran all over the place, everywhere except where he was meant to 🙂 it was so good to go to his very first sports day though.
