The Famous Footsteps Your Kid Could Follow In At Prep School

My parents always told me as a child, that had they had the money to afford it, my brother and I would have been sent off to private school. Today’s guest post is all about those now famous and well know British stars who were once children attending preparatory school.

Preparatory school, what does it mean to you? Perhaps it’s traditional uniforms, neat hair, smart satchel or bag, dropping off with a smile at the school gate. It conjures up a lovely image, doesn’t it ?

Many famous and powerful people have attended these types of school and here we take a peek at some of the famous preparatory school attendees. Maybe your young ones will go on to be the famous, experts or trail- blazers by following in these famous footsteps…

Pop star royalty: Lily Allen
Lily Allen is famous for her amazingly catchy pop songs and stand out lyrics. “Smile” came onto the scene and inspired a new generation of songwriters and fans. Her style and confidence has won her best female singer in the 2010 Brit Awards and having just released a new album Sheezus Lily has come a long way since her prep school days .

Leading actor and OBE: Chiwetel Ejiofor
Oscar-nominated Chiweltel Ejiofor is in massive demand. Having starred in Twelve Years a Slave, he is a global sensation. His prep school was in London at Dulwich and after this he went on to the London Academy of Music and dramatic art at the age of just 19 years! After being chosen by Steven Spielberg for a Hollywood role, he’s never looked back.

Racing driver: Robert Peter Huff
Winner of the 2000 Formula Vauxhall Championship and 2001 Ethyl MG Championship (class B), Robert “Rob” Huff isn’t a stranger to fast tracks. Born in Cambridge, he was educated at St Faith’s Preparatory School before attending The Leys School and really taking the wheel of his career!
He now competes in the World Touring Car Championship for the Chevrolet team and even became World Touring Car Champion just two years ago in 2012.

Writer and poet: T S Eliot
Known as “one of the twentieth century’s major poets”, T. S Eliot was a publisher (at Faber and Faber), a playwright, and a literary and social critic. And if that isn’t enough he’s remembered at Westminster Cathedral in Poets Corner. If your young one is good with words, a preparatory school could help them along the way to find fame as the twenty-first century T. S Eliot.

Chairman and Chief Executive of Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg
He’s had movies made about him, is one of the richest men in the world at only 30 years old! Mark Zuckerberg is a major cultural figure and, via his social media site Facebook, has a global reach to billions of people.
He started young as a computer programmer but as alumni of a preparatory school in the USA, he’s one to carry on watching.

OBE English-French actress: Kristin Scott Thomas
Who can forget Kristin Scott Thomas in Four Weddings and a Funeral and The English Patient? She is loved for her talent, style and elegance and has lived in England and France bringing up three children – and all after attending prep school!
