It is International Women’s Day on 8th March and Penny, Annie and Tanya from Team Honk have been helping Comic Relief to highlight projects that have helped women in Tanzania get jobs, start businesses and secure a future for their families and communities.
Meet Lucy
Through mentoring and training, the Gatsby Trust gave her the confidence to develop her business and to network after moving from the countryside to the city.
Comic Relief has awarded the Tanzania Gatsby Trust a grant of £264,959 over three years so they can continue helping women in Tanzania.
The Gatsby Trust helps 1000 female entrepreneurs by educating both women and their partners about women’s rights and providing support and training, it has been around since 1992.
Lucy is an inspirational creative woman who brought out so many beautiful, imaginative handcrafted items to show Annie, Tanya and Penny, you can see more photos of them and read more about Lucy here.
More than that, Lucy is a teacher and looks forward to expanding her business by training other women who want to start up craft and textile businesses.
Isn’t it fantastic to see where the money we all donate to Sport (and Comic) Relief goes? I think so. I love that the fact that the money I donate, however small it may be, really does help people. It changes lives. It makes a difference. A BIG difference and that is amazing!

News just in – the Team Honk Relay has now raised more than £22,000 – brilliant, just brilliant 🙂
I love how you have done your post and included a postcard!!! That is brilliant. Thank you for sharing Lucy’s story too. She really was an inspiration.
Another fabulous post about another inspiring lady. It’s amazing how with that little bit of support they can expand their own businesses AND help other women starting out.
(Very impressed – and a bit jealous – that you’ve turned your postcard into an actual postcard!)
