My Mum was always very strict when it came to my footwear. She felt strongly that wearing shoes that fitted properly was far more important than whether the shoe was fashionable or not. Therefore, while many of my friends wore trendy high street shoes that were pretty and ‘normal’ looking , I wore shoes from a well known shoe shop which back then were quite ugly looking and ….. well boring! Obviously, now I am grateful to my Mum that I wore such shoes because having very wide feet as a child, shoes bought from those other shoes shops would not have done my feet any good and would most probably have been very uncomfortable and possibly caused me to have problems with my feet as I grew older. This is precisely what my Mum did not want me to have and why she made me (and my brother) wear such sensible shoes.
Nowadays of course you can protect your feet and house them in stylish arch support shoes without having to compromise on style and choice of footwear. This is good news for me because with my (still) wide feet I do have problems finding shoes that are comfortable, roomy, practical and stylish . I am less fussy about the shoes needing to be ultra trendy nowadays of course! As a Mum to two energetic boys, I do a lot more walking in all weathers and on all terrains so I need my shoes to not rub my feet and to last a while as being a SAHM I do not have the money to afford too many different types of footwear. I need to find somewhere that sells women comfort shoes.
And do you know what? The funny thing is that the shoes I tend to opt for now as a Mum is the type of shoe my Mum bought for me as a child!! Ok, so the ones I choose to buy myself are less ugly and not brown with cut out patterns around the top of the foot area, but even so I do look at them and think they are a little alike!!!!
I guess it goes to show that Mum’s do know best afterall!!

They really do, just such a shame that we don’t know why at the time!
