With the Christmas holidays about to commence and all those excited school children ready for their festive break, if you are anything like me as much as I am happy not to have the school run each day I am thinking about all the Christmas prep I still need to do while looking after my two boys. With the weather not looking too good either with wind and rain on the way, I am racking my brains for things they can do with and without my constant supervision so I can get my wrapping and food prepping done.
I have planned some Christmas craft activities with them but this will require my watching over them as I do not trust them alone with glue, glitter and paint – imagine how festive my walls, table and floors could quickly become if they were left unattended!!!
Therefore, I am thinking about making an indoor den for them and as it is almost Christmas I am actually contemplating making the den more festive any possinly more grotto like – something I know they will LOVE! Having searched the internet for some inspiration I have collated some ideas for all seasons on my Homemade Dens pinterest board
I especially adore the dens made with simple affects like a table or sofa with a blanket or sheet spread over to create a little secret space. But, what I am loving even more is those that have been adorned with festive fairy lights – lets face it nothing says Christmas and grotto like festive fairy lights. I have some star shaped ones left over from our tree decorating, and a slanket, sheet and some scatter cushions so I think I could easily make a homely and cosy festive den for Burton and Jenson. If I add some star lights inside together with some books, cuddly toys a drink and some snacks I think that would occupy them for a few hours.
Why don’t you take some inspiration and get den building for your children over the holidays and if you blog about your creation and submit it here by 20th December you could win Love2Shop vouchers which you can spend in most high street shops. BUT do not despair if you cannot make a den and link up by Friday, the competition runs every two weeks – so plenty of time to have a go over the Christmas school holidays.

I love the fairy light den the best. That’s definitely very festive looking!
