Think about your home and your daily routine. Where do you tend to spend the majority of your time at home (when you’re not asleep)?
In the shower? Standing over the stove? Or, as is most common, on the sofa?
For most people, the living room is the heart of the family home. It’s where you watch television, read the newspaper, make phone calls, entertain friends, bond with people and so on.
It needs to be the best it can possibly be, which is why people have always put their he
art and soul into the design and layout of their living room, sometimes at the expense of other bits of the house.
The most notable bit of any living room is the sofa.
In 1953, Donald Gomme revolutionised the British living room as we know it. Although design tastes have changed a great deal since the 1950s, some things have remained consistent, including the commitment to innovation, comfort and style. The driving forces behind Donald Gomme’s 1953 brand launch are still evident today.
In the 1960s, the company were the first sofa manufacturers to sell sofas without matching chairs. At about the same time, in 1962, they produced a swivel chair which was quickly labelled “the world’s comfiest chair”. Even though the Gomme family stepped down from directorship in 1987, that pioneering nature has not changed one bit. Coming into the 21st century, a new custom-built factory opened up in Wiltshire with the firm winning official recognition by the British Standards Institute for excellence in product and corporate quality.
All in all, you can see that GPlan sofas in 2013 are the culmination of six decades of sofa-making expertise, and are amongst the very best on the market today. GPlan are celebrating 60 years of the British sofa and have a wealth of sofas for sale.
However, purchasing a sofa isn’t like wandering down to the corner shop and buying a chocolate bar. If you don’t like it, buying another one might not be an option. Choose carefully and make sure you get the right one.
Consider the size and shape of your room, the décor you would want, the colours that you are after. Take into account the feel of the chair, the way the fabric or leather feels when you sit down, the type of atmosphere you are trying to create.
The sofa is arguably the most important part of the family home. Get the best one you can.
